Beer in westerns

Do you know why there’s a traditional big beer festival in the Fall? To celebrate the return of beer!

There was no brewing in breweries that we would recognize today. Until refrigeration was introduced in the 1880’s beer was only brewed in the colder months from September until April or May.

So I still say the real cowpoke walked up the the bar and said “Gimme Wheeskey.”

Beer starts to cool as soon as you open it, as heat is lost to evaporation. As the body is 98°, anything less than that will taste cool. Beer kept in a cellar under a building will get to 60° even in the heat of the plains.
