Beer vs. Vodka

Nicky,

I think JimB got to the guts of the issue, but let’s just spell it out. A mixed drink based on 80 proof vodka, with a standard pour of 1.5 oz of such (thanks, Uke), gives an alcohol content of 0.6 oz of alcohol, no matter how much non-alcoholic mixer is included. That’s how much booze you get with that drink.

Your 6% beer has 6% booze per ounce and your getting 12-20 such units per drink. So, you are getting 0.06 x # of oz. per beer. Clear?

In my opinion I like boilermakers. The good old fashioned kind where you take an ice cold beer in a mug and a shot of whiskey, then either pour the shot into the beer or drop the whole damn glass in. Tastes good if you use a quality whiskey instead of the ABC brand paint thinner tinted with mud.

Now, two of those will get you feeling right. Slam the first down and sip the second and mellow out!

A beer buzz gives me a completely different sensation than a vodka buzz. A beer buzz makes me feel light headed and giggly. A vodka buzz makes me feel like my brain is numb.

BTW, a friend of mine worked as a cocktail waitress at a popular dance club. She clued me in that the bartenders didn’t put ANY alcohol in their fruity “girly” drinks, like Strawberry Daiquiris. Zilch. Anyway, she said she’d crack up at the women who’d act like they were drunker than skunks after two of these.

Of course, sometimes it’s more the mood you’re in more than the alcohol…
