I noticed that on the Board’s banner (it’s right above you) it says THE STRAIGHT DOP®E. Why is this? I always see it at the end of the phrase.

‘I always see it at the end of the phrase.’

I was referring to the ®, BTW.

Because it wouldn’t fit. Logos are often oddly-shaped, so the registration symbol goes wherever they can fit it. Cf. [The Tonka logo](http://www.hasbropreschool.com/images/tonka/tonka_new_banner2.gif)

It would fit, but the banner would have to be extended a bit.

Besides Tonka, Pepsi is another company I can thing of with unique ® placement. After the second P.

`® before E except after C, or when it says `eh’, as in `neighbor' and `weigh.’’

How do you make that little “®” sign? My keyboard doesn’t have an “®”.

It’s “Alt” + 0174.

Like so: ®

There are a number of numerical codes with Alt that make special symbols such as that one.

> For special characters, you can use the [HTML Name codes or Number codes](http://home.earthlink.net/~awinkelried/keyboard_shortcuts.html), or use the method appropriate for your operating system.
> On the Windows operating system, you can copy and paste special characters from Character Map (one of the items in the start menu). Character Map will also show you the ASCII value for that character, and you can create the character by holding down the ALT key and typing in the ASCII value on your numeric keypad.
> On MacOS, you can copy and paste special characters from KeyCaps (one of the items in the Apple Menu.) Hold down the option key and the shift-option keys to see the special characters.

I suggest using the following:

®

It can be found in Arnold’s link, it’s standards-compliant, it’s system-independent, and best of all, it’s easier to remember. 🙂
