Are tacks really that sharp? I mean, they’re kind of sharp, but “sharp as a needle” seems like a better metaphor to me. Also, why are clams supposed to be so happy? (I know, the original expression was “happy as a clam at high tide” because it couldn’t be dug up in that situation, but now everyone just says “happy as a clam,” which sounds like they think that clams are the happiest animals on Earth, even if they don’t live in Disneyland.) ---
