At its closest approach to Earth, Mars is about 35 million miles away. Even at a fairly expensive rate of $5 per mile, a taxi could get you there for $175 million. That’s way cheaper than the cost NASA is quoting. It will take about 65 years for a taxi to get there at 60 mph, but hey, you can have cheap or you can have fast. ---

I do not think it would be possible to travel to Mars at 60mph. The basic laws of physics in the gravitational gradient would not allow it. To begin with, you have to be able to exit Earth, which would require a speed of more than 25 thousand mph. The transit trajectory would probably be somewhat less, but still usually a lot more than 60mph, at least on average. ---

Escape velocity is necessary only for a ballistic projectile. If you have a source of continuous propulsion, like a car engine, you can travel at any speed you want. ---
