Is anyone offended anymore when told fuck \? Seems to be that these phrases are used so much they aren’t much more of an explitive anymore. ---

Not at all. Fuck off, go fuck youself, fuck you, fuck me, etc. are pretty inoffensive to me and mine. Even if someone meant it, the word ‘fuck’ is too over-used to be truly offensive (then again, "please go away " could make me cry like a baby if used in the right context :(). Same as the word ‘bitch’, imho. In my age-group (early 20s) this is a humorous term of endearment. So oddly enough, I can’t imagine telling anyone I dislike to “fuck off, bitch”. My pet theory is that ‘bitch’ is like ‘bastard’ - which become a like label of affection (at least here in Australia) for my parent’s generation. I’m really big on being considerate. Especially in our increasingly secular and hurried society. Therefore, I find the omnipresent dispersal of the finger and the term pretty distressing. Is there a ruder, more vulgar, more combative gesture or remark? I really don’t think so. So if you casually flip me the bird from your car and think nothing of it, don’t count on me to do the same. ---

It really just depends on the person and the manner in which they say it. Being told to “fuck off” by a friend in a joking manner doesn’t offend me a bit . If it’s said by a stranger or if the friend that says it _really_ means it I’m gonna get defensive and say “fuck you” right back. That holds true with anything that’s said to me though. It really depends on the tone of voice. ---

As for me, whether the sender of the blaspheme is serious or not, when someone says, “Fuck you” i simply respond “anytime anywhere” of course I don’t mean this. But sometimes it will give the other person something to think about. ---

Swearing at other people may mean nothing to you, because you say it all the time and it has lost all meaning to you, but it might be very hurtful to the person receiving it. I was driving one day, just minding my own business, when a guy who thought I cut him off yelled “Fuck you, bitch!” at me. I burst out in tears when he did this. I have a very low tolerance for being sworn and yelled at (thanks to an abusive father); I’m sure I’m not the only person like this, either. Just something to think about. ---

But **Spanky** , that’s kind of the point! 🙂 If someone tells me to Fuck off, I’m not gonna meekly hang my head and say, “Yes sir, I’ll just be fucking off then.” The “AAARRRGGGHHH!!!” reaction is exactly what **handy** and **EVO95** want to provoke. I guess it really works. Actually, I think when someone says “Fuck you!” they usually want the other person to get angry. A smartass comment denies them the satisfaction. But then, (finally getting around to the OP), it depends on delivery. And, yeah, it definitely loses impact with overuse. ---

I guess it depends on context. When I’m joking around with my husband and say, “yeah well, fuck you asshole” he knows I’m just playing, and he usually retorts with “Is that a request…” You get the picture. However, last night when (under my breath) I called my coworker a “motherfucking whore” I meant it with all the anger and disgust that I could muster. I imagine that if she had heard the comment, she would have completely understood exactly how I feel about her. ---

It all depends on how it’s said and who is saying it. Most of the time it’s said as a joke and I reply with a joke like “please” “when where and how hard”, or if I’m feeling like a bitch, “no”. ---

Yes, but you aren’t suppoed to treat it like an invitation. From the perspective of the person who said “fuck you,” replying with a joke makes you look like a smart-ass retard, especially since such replies are not very clever. “Tee hee, he said ‘fuck you,’ and I said ‘no thanks’. I’m so clever, tee hee.” I don’t know, maybe my high school was just full of smart-ass idiots. BTW: the part of my earlier post should have read “fuck you (or) eat/lick/blow me.” ---
