OK… you really don’t want to be making a pitch about how unlucky the phone company is to a guy who works for the phone company and knows. Sorry if it didn’t work out, but as I said before, I see many, many personal choices in the story you posted. Phone company’s working out OK for me, but then I chose not to content myself with climbing poles. Choices. We all have them.

I guess it’s a really good thing I never insisted that, then.

And I just want to go on the record that I am not on board with this gung-ho insistence by what’s-her-name about how who’s-her-face should have aborted her child. Should have been sufficient to mention reproductive choice one time and then be done with it. I find it gruesome that someone is repeating over and over that they had absolutely zero regard or emotional reaction to their abortion, it sounds more like self-reassurance than the assertion of any meaningful point. Count me on the side of “creeped out” on that one.

Subtle irony, word play, Robin Williams, embarassing situations, even the occasional kick-in-the-balls schtick. But joking about how crime should be more violent or malicious is not one of them. Guess we’re just different that way.

And you, as self appointed arbiter of all things “appropriate” in this thread, have deemed my contribution lacking.

Am I supposed to care? I am not about to explain sardonicism to you.

Thank you for the laundry list of your favorite types of humor. Shall I keep it to for future reference or will you advise me again on an as needed basis?

Like I said before, there are only a precious few things in life we have real control over, and reproduction is one of them. If we don’t utilize our control, which we are so fortunate to have, then I guess we’re just floating through the cosmos, helpless, aren’t we?

Sorry to keep posting–gotta learn how to put all of the quotes in one post.

Various things in my life have shaped my opinion on the subject.\<snip\>. It would be one thing if they just damaged their own lives… but it is compounded exponentially because by damaging their lives, the new human being being brought into it has fewer chances, choices, opportunities, resources, etc. And that is just not cool on any level.

> I believe that the most important and serious thing you could do in life is to create a new life. With such a serious thing, I think it absolutely, definitely, 100% should be _planned._ If you don’t plan accordingly, then don’t be surprised when your life gets rough.

Wow-but your bringing new life into the world was an oops, too? No? You planned that pregancy, right? Just to have the abortion? Or did you not plan accordingly there? What-_YOU_ lost total control over your reproduction?
Go figure. Whatever happened-BC fail? You were drunk? You actually had intercourse (I’m here wondering if the guy had to fill out forms in triplicate and pass a urine test to do you?).
**Inkle** why don’t you just get rid of your kid now? **nyctea** would approve, I’m sure, because then you might have better “chances, opportunities, resources, etc.”

Gosh, it all seems so simple now-just lose those pesky encumbrances! Hubby lose his job? Divorce! Kid giving you medical bills? Foster care or adoption or hell, murder! Makes me look at my 3 with new eyes…didn’t see them as obtacles to the Yuppie “lifestyle” before. What a world view!
**nyctea** --why don’t you deal in reality? **Ink’s** got the kid–she is not gonna send him back. Why go the shoulda/coulda/woulda route?

Never mind-I already know. You need to make yourself feel better about the decision you made. Marginalizing her helps you and your view of yourself.

Sad.

> Shut the fuck up. No one here will even get that, it’s totally off-point, and you are seriously pissing me off lately.

Far be it from me to stir it up between you, but if that’s a reference to giving a teething child a frozen waffle, I got the reference 🙂 AND I gave my own teething child a frozen waffle based on this remark in another thread and also told a friend of mine about it, and she is doing it too. You have started a frenzy of waffle-eating babies.

For the record, I don’t know how successful waffles-as-teethers are since our dog keeps stealing them out of his hands the minute my back is turned. Apparently the dog loves frozen waffles. Who knew.

So sorry for encouraging yet another hijack. I just cracked up at this comment because you guys sound just like me and my husband. If your husband is like mine he will now gloat -“See? Someone DID get the reference!”

As for the rest of the thread, I am totally in agreement with you about the lack of maternity leave and affordable child care in this country. We would like to have another child in a few years and we are already trying to figure out what to do about maternity leave. Yes we are being responsible and planning for it. No I am not entitled to anything. But it is very difficult to have 6-12 weeks with little or no pay at the same time you have the expense of a new baby, and my husband and I are both educated and have pretty good jobs and insurance. We are in a relatively good position, I honestly don’t know how most people do it. I know I should be thankful we don’t live in a grass hut and eat locusts and give our baby sticks to play with. But I really feel that policies that make raising families easier are generally a good thing, for all of society.

I’m not the type to begrudge other people government assistance or a helping hand if they need it in general, because I figure a society that is there to help them will be there for me too. In my fantasy utopia land, people are willing to help each other get ahead, even if it means sometimes people get things they are not ‘entitled’ to, but just because it makes people’s lives better. I also see how companies that give their employees generous benefits are usually very successful, since they attract good workers and people are loyal to them. I worry about how the current trend of cutting benefits, downsizing, forcing people to work part time, etc. is going to affect our country long-term. I hear the words “you are lucky to even get _that_” so often now and I wonder what the standard will be when my son is old enough to get a job.

**Nyctea** , why didn’t you just say, "You caused all your problems, so just STFU, you whiny bint’ and leave it at that? (Note: I am NOT calling the OP a whiny bint, just summarizing another poster’s apparent attitude.) It would made the point I think you’re going for far more effectively than your whole diatribe about how much better many people’s lives would be if they just had abortions, and it’s so simple and has been so fabulous, and blah blah blah blah nobodygivesashitcakes. Yes, the OP could have avoided the financial issues related to her going on bedrest and her son being critically ill if she’d chosen an abortion. So the fuck what? As others have mentioned, playing Monday morning quarterback doesn’t really do anything for the situation as it stands now, and besides the neighborhood would have still gone downhill, and her husband would still have lost his job, and her car would still have been broken into, and her patio would still be breaking. She would still be pissed off and feeling trapped, so this rant would still have happened. And what would you have said to her then?

The simple fact is that sometimes shit happens. And sometimes that shit leads us down paths we weren’t planning to take. God knows my life isn’t what I’d always envisioned for myself. But you know what? It’s a good life, and even though some things are harder than they absolutely have to be, even though I bitch and piss and moan on a regular basis, I’m happy. If I’d continued on as planned, I would have missed out on so many things that have given me so much joy. Maybe those things would have been replaced with other joys, but I can’t honestly say that my life would be better for having missed these things.

It is in states with Temporary Disability Insurance. It is in my state:

Or, to do the work for you:

I’M PREGNANT. CAN I COLLECT TDI?

Pregnancy is treated the same way as any potentially disabling condition. Once your doctor tells you that you cannot continue to work because your condition is incapacitating, file your TDI claim. If you have enough earnings you will be paid benefits for the time you have been medically certified as unable to work.

So you see, pregnancy does qualify for benefits as a disability in at least one disability insurance plan.

I was quite shocked to find that there are only five states that have TDI. I’ve lived in 2 of them.

Actually, I seem to remember you telling us about that once. (Or maybe it was on the SDMB LJ?)

**sven** , **nyctea** is indeed a female-I met her at a Dopefest. And while she was fine there, I’m convinced that more of our real selves come out here (when we’re hidden behind a screen, rather than meeting face to face for the first time and likely to dwell on small talk). So, I am convinced that she’s a shallow, dippy cunt.

It also scares the hell out of me when she says she’s planning on having kids someday. I can’t see anyone that fucking self-centered and shallow raising a child.

**inkleberry** , she does this to everyone’s thread ranting about their lives (Like that thread about the guy who was really insecure about his penis size-she told him that, “Wow, that’s REALLY small! I mean, I’ve had 8 inches, and I could hardly feel it! Damn.” Or the one where she told women they were gross and disgusting for breast feeding in public, and why couldn’t they just pump? Duh!)

Consider the source.

Well, considering this thread has already been hijacked 6 ways from Sunday, one more won’t hurt…

So when our car got broken into last week, one of the things stolen was my car adaptor for my breat pump. Filled me with grr, I’ll tell you. So DLG and I got Tinkleberry and headed to the breast clinic 15 miles away where they sell this damn thing.

By the time we got there, I was about to burst. Tink wasn’t hungry, so DLG played with him in the back of our minivan, which has “privacy glass.” I sat up front and double-pumped. We were in an empty parking garage and parked in a corner.

I looked up about 5 minutes later to find a business guy STARING drop-jawed at my exposed boobies with their milking attachments still pumping away. The look on his face was one of absolute horror and shock. Then he caught my eye and gave me the, “How _you_ doin’?” raised eyebrow look.

I laughed my ass off and DLG made some comments from the back that were even funnier. So I start talking to DLG without turning around and the guy becomes even more horrified. Drops his briefcase. I laugh harder.

Finally, he composes himself and scurries off. It was then we realized he couldn’t see DLG and TInk in the back because of the privacy glass, and thus the total effect was of a woman milking herself while laughing hysterically and talking to herself.

Somewhere, in some office, I was quite the water fountain talk.

Everyone is self-centered. I could turn it right around and say that choosing to go through with an unintended pregnancy when you’re not prepared for it is self-centered. Why do they do it? Because they want a _cute widdle baaaaby_! Because they don’t want to feel guilty! But are they thinking about the welfare of the child, or whether they are ready to support the child in the best possible way? All the people I know who did this didn’t think it through rationally. They just acted on selfish impulse. Choosing to wait until you’re ready is actually pretty selfless, Guin. Think about it.

Note that Guin said that I said that I could “ **hardly feel** ” 8 inches, when what I really said is that with 8 inches, “some positions and angles **it hurt**.”

Big difference. Reading comprehension - a valuable skill.

I’ll start this by saying that I stopped reading after a couple pages, so I’m sorry if this has already been said.

**Inkleberry** I’m sorry to hear about your car- senseless crime is the worst, isn’t it? Someone broke into my car and only took my beat up, stained, torn UCLA sweatshirt. Granted, I needed a new one anyway, but I felt violated none the less. Don’t worry about- that ooky feeling will go away soon enough. Plus- karma’s a biotch, I’m sure the vandals will get theirs. 😃

I know moving isn’t an option right now (I _am_ glad to hear you and Tinkleberry are doing better!), but I disagree with others that have said you need to get out of CA. Not all of CA is $500,000- 700 square foot homes with no yards. I’m not sure if you would be up for it, but I would check out the valley (Fresno, Bakersfield, etc). Granted, our air is horrible, but Bakersfield is a great place for raising kids- good schools, close knit community, beautiful parks, and CHEAP HOUSES!

My dad owns a couple rentals here that he actually charges a bit more then the norm for, but to give you an idea of the housing market here:

3 bedroom; 1.5 bath; big yard $875 a month
4 bedroom; 2 bath; big yard; above ground pool $1050 a month

Our houses are all nice and a lot of the houses in this city are. They are also builing LOTS of new homes for reasonable pries. My mom bought herself that previously mentioned 4 bedroom _my dad bought it from her later on_ in 2001 for $105,000. A friend of mine rents a nice 2 bedroom apartment with her mom for $450 a month.

Sorry for any type of hijack. I just dislike when everyone assumes EVERYWHERE in CA is horribly expensive. I hope my advice helped a bit!

Her point was you were being dismissive and offensive and insensitive. You were. And are.

Exactly. So I remembered it wrong. Big deal-I’m sorry if I don’t have a perfect photographic memory when it comes to your cavernous twat. My point-that you came in and took a shit in someone’s thread, to be horribly cruel and snotty-still stands.
