Lebanese customs chief arrested over Beirut blast:

The head of Lebanon’s customs authority was formally arrested on Monday after being questioned over the massive explosion in Beirut earlier this month, the state-run National News Agency reported.

I’m not surprised they asked French investigators to help out, I am surprised they asked for the US’s FBI as well.

Let’s not forget the four-legged survivors.

Last weekend, I heard that some of their machinery may have detected life in a building. Has anyone heard anything more about that?

Okay, my personal guess is that if anything was alive in a collapsed building, it was probably a dog that moved in after the explosion.

One year later…

The classic multi-kiloton pile of ammonium nitrate! Note, the one in Beirut was hardly the only such pile in the world; it just happened to be the one to explode that day. Not too surprisingly, no one has yet been held accountable.
