Amen to that.
I’m in Puget Sound, so my daily commute involves 520 all the way from the eastside to West Seattle-ish. Only good thing about it is it’s not 405.
My car’s a Civic Hybrid, and I’ve noticed that the gas indicator will dip sharply when I’m driving as opposed to when I’ve just gotten into the car and started it up – I assume this is due to gas uptake into the engine as opposed to sloshing around in the tank itself. But the difference can be very considerable, sometimes as much as three tick marks on the gauge (I’d hazard that’s about 1/6 or so). I’m not sure if that’s a common thing or not, but that’s my car for you.
So I’ve gotten used to filling up when I hit about 1/3 to 1/4 of a tank left if I don’t want to have the gas light blinking pathetically at me in the middle of gridlock on 520. Dying on the bridge in the middle of rush hour is a personal nightmare of mine, and I plan to make damn sure it won’t be due to running out of gas if it should ever happen, knock on wood.
