# Benefits of dating someone who looks like yourself?

Almost exclusively dating someone who has similar hair color, skin color, weight, and height.
People who date in such fashion always fascinate me. Even more so, that this is very common.
This something I cannot ever imagine doing. I have occasionally been attracted to my “clone”, but not often. I am often attracted to those with similar hair color. But I am attracted to those who are quite taller than me and a bit heavier than me. Different facial features is a MUST. Skin color, with some exceptions, doesn’t matter much to me one way or the other.
If I wanted to fuck someone who very closely resembles myself, I might as well just continue masturbating. I won’t have the thrill of exploring a body that looks differently than mine. You know it would be similar to living in one house, and then moving to another house that looks the same, inside and out.
Then there’s the issue of mating with someone who looks like family. The more likely I run into a women and men with similar features, the more likely I find that they resemble a family member!
Ok, I’m rambling…
This is going to sound condescending, but curiosity is killing me. If you strongly prefer to date folks with similar features, what’s in it for you? Have you even explored why? Do you see your preference as dating a clone, at all? Has it occurred to you that your mates may resemble family members? Is this something that I shouldn’t even question? Something hardwired and unexplainable, like how some people are naturally attracted to the same sex?

I’ve known people who have dated people who resemble them, but I don’t know that I’ve heard of anyone who \*exclusively \*likes that. Who are these people?

With similar height and weight, I basically doubled my wardrobe. So that was a plus. Just another fringe benefit of being gay.

My ex and I both have similar skin tone, hair color, and build, although she’s about 3" shorter than me. A few times people asked if we were brother and sister.
My wife is black, and I am white, she’s a great deal thinner and, frankly, way more attractive than I am.
The only advantage I’ve noted of the former situation is that people were more likely to mentally “connect” us in a crowd. Folks often don’t realize that my wife and I are together unless we’re holding hands or something.

Do people actually and deliberately look for people to date who look like themselves? Or, is this something that just happens at times?
IMHO, if your SO **is** somewhat the same body type and size that you are, sharing things like clothing becomes doable. Why I just inherited some nice warm Long Johns to wear when I’m scooting in cold weather. 😃

I have never, ever heard of someone specifically, much less exclusively, dating someone with similar features to themselves. This is a very odd thread.

I don’t know about exclusively, but I’ve met a few pairs of very similar looking people. One married couple that stands out were both about the same height, very thin, dark hair, and remarkably similar facial features.

Ok, but did one search out the other specifically due to that similarity? _That_ is what is unheard of to me. Sure, I’ve seen similar-looking couples; I just attributed it to coincedence or perhaps unconscious behavior. If it’s that unconscious behavior that is being talked about here, ok. But I don’t get the feeling that is what the OP is referring to.

I have no idea. I’ve never heard of anyone actually seeking out someone else resembling them that greatly, but while it would be a turnoff for me, apparently it isn’t for everybody.

Eh, I think it is just chance. Given the limited number of hair colors, etc, some people are just going to resemble their partner by chance alone.

That’s probably true. People may not realize the resemblance when they first meet. And different hairstyles, clothing, makeup, etc. can make people look more or less alike.
