I haven’t been to Mass in 17 years, but I grew up Catholic in Boston, and I went to paraochial school for 12 years. My family was very active in parish life, and it was par for the course for priests to be at my house.
DO NOT GET ME WRONG. I am not belittling the horror and suffering or questioning the validity of anyones experiences here in Massachusetts.
But I can tell you this. I never once experienced anything of this sort from any of the priests and nuns. Anyone I’ve asked hasn’t either. All priests were not and are not monsters.
Even though I left the Church over matters of “faith,” I still want to speak up for those clergy that truly did serve God, and even if they couldn’t keep me in the flock, they sure taught me question things.
We used to joke about shit like this going on in the rectory(I know, awful but we figured IMPOSSIBLE) when we were evil little fucks in high school(uniform:brown plaid) .
Now it just makes me very sad.
Guinastasia, if the local news is to be believed, your own Bishop Wuerl may be heading to Boston next. He’s only one of several candidates, but he’s said to be in the running.
CJ
Hmmm, I could believe it. I’m not a huge fan of Wuerl’s ideology (too conservative), but his zero-tolerance policies on child abuse by the clergy are top notch.
I wonder if the US of A has an extradition treaty with the Vatican.
He’s gone. Yay!
