Really? Jeez, when the Republicans did the “14 responses to SOTU” thing a couple years back, it went from moderately bad to laughable pretty quickly. It’d be awesome to avoid that. ---

I am hoping I can find something to watch Tuesday night b/c the NCIS shows won’t be on ☹ Does trump’ state of confusion’ really have to be on so many channels ! Yeah I don’t think Bernie Sanders should be taking any attention away from U.S. Rep. Joe Kennedy III. ---

As for the underlying idea–that progressives should shut up and let the establishment Democrats hog the spotlight, and when progressives speak up it’s not faaaaaaaiiiiirrrr–I give that idea all the respect it deserves. ---

It’s a social media streaming response. He’s not part of the televised SOTU coverage. He gave one last year, too, after Trump’s “Don’t call it a State of the Union because he just got sworn in” speech. I expect this will get almost as much attention. If you give a political speech and nobody’s listening, does it make any sound? ---

Whenever there’s a State of the Union, everyone who has anything to say, from random guy in bars to journalists to politicians, says something about it. It’s been that way since forever, and one can argue that that’s why we have the SotU in the first place. Some responses will get a lot more press than others, like the official designated response of the opposing party, but everyone else still gets to have their say. Why should it be otherwise? ---
