No one mentioned Frankie Valli yet?

oo OO oo oo ooo oo oo _OOOOOOOOOOOOO…_
“Take On Me” by a-ha.

That’s a dangerous one, because I always feel compelled to sing along and then I end up nearly hurting myself.
Also risky to play outdoors because all the dogs in the neighborhood start barking.

Another one - “Baron Samedi” by 10CC, where the last syllable in this couplet soars upward and merges into an ungodly electronic shriek:

_Take a sip of dripping red
Make it with the living deaaadeaaaaaeaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAD_
Oddball Queen Fact!

The truly high notes on Bohemian Rhapsody (and a lot of the other stuff) is done by Roger Taylor, the singing drummer. For a guy who wore his testosterone on his sleeve he has the ability to hit higher notes than just about anyone.

Example: The ‘galileo’ bit in BR. Deep notes: Freddie. High notes: Roger.
Roger goes even higher in _'39_. Ball-bustingly high.

Dennis DeYoung hit a high note on at least half the songs he sang for Styx, maybe just to show he can.

Speaking of Styx, I just picked up Larry Gowan’s “Strange Animal” CD, and went to YouTube to watch him perform “A Criminal Mind.” I was surprised to see that it was him doing the very high voice at the end on the line “just like these prison walls.” I always thought it was a woman singing that, but he’s one of those guys who can sing obscenely high.
I thought Dolly’s whole version of it was overall higher than Whitney’s. Whitney’s big note wasn’t crazy high. (She may have been, but the note wasn’t.)
Two other Dolly Parton songs that I remember having high notes is the plaintive _Jolene_ and _Love is Like a Butterfly_.

Del Shannon on Runaway – _I wah-wah-wah-wonder, why, why, why, why, why, she ran away_. We used to hurt ourselves singing along with that.

At least two octaves on that song, right?

Of course there’s [Licorice McKechnie](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xgBs4RNXFA) (youtube), from my favorite band. She can summon bats.

Wouldn’t exactly call her “pop,” though.
Rob Halford (Judas Priest) in many songs - I’ve got “Exciter” playing right now for example and he sings the whole thing in a pretty high pitch, then at the end keeps ratcheting it up over and over again.

Guitarists Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing were talking about that a while back. They said, (paraphrasing from memory) “We kept pushing him, telling him to ‘go higher! go higher! higher!’. And you know, he always did.”

Guinness says the Brazilian singer Georgia Brown holds the record for highest note and largest vocal range. There’s a link to a video of her in the wiki article (not to her record note, though).

> **[Vocal range](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vocal_range#World_records_and_extremes_of_vocal_range)**
>
> Vocal range is the range of pitches that a human voice can phonate. A common application is within the context of singing, where it is used as a defining characteristic for classifying singing voices into voice types. It is also a topic of study within linguistics, phonetics, and speech-language pathology, particularly in relation to the study of tonal languages and certain types of vocal disorders, although it has little practical application in terms of speech.

“Lovin’ You” by [Minnie Ripperton](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnie_Riperton). She hastened the move to solid state stereos in the 70’s when her extremely high pitched “AAahhhaaaahhhaaAAaaAAh” shattered glass electronic tubes in older hi-fi’s.
