Best #1 single of the decade: the 1980s

Tough call for me from between “Sledgehammer,” “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For,” and “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” I liked all of them when they came out and LOVED playing “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” for the LONGEST time. But that had something to do with me being at a place in my life where I wasn’t particularly happy, and wondering if I’d ever get to that point. Well, now I can honestly say that I’m very happy with the way my life is going so as much as I liked “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” I just don’t see it having as much meaning for me as it once did. Not as much meaning attached to it for me but “Sledgehammer” is the one of those three that I still get the most enjoyment out of so, “Sledgehammer” it is!

I love Knopfler’s opening guitar, but don’t care for the line with the (2-syllable) F word and his earring and the makeup. But I’m sure I’d take his car, and jet airplane. I’ll still sing the lyrics, though. Cool song.
ETA: score update, my vote pushes Money for Nothing into a brief lead by a nose of 1 over Billie Jean! 31-30. Prince at a distant 3rd with 23.

This reminds me of another song, Randy Vanwarmer’s Just When I Needed You Most, because when they tabulated the votes for Best #1 single of all time: 1955-2014 (THE FINALS), Billie Jean was in the lead, so we Money For Nothing fans could only watch tear-stained, thinking “If only someone had shown up in time to put our song over…”

Therefore, instead of being allowed to sing Anne Murry’s You Needed Me, you are hereby sentenced to sing 10 rounds of Dr. John’s Right Place, Wrong Time.
