Why is “For You Blue” on these lists? It wasn’t a hit was it? It is one of the worst Bealtes songs live ever.

It was the B-side to “Long and Winding Road”.

Or more precisely, it was the \*double A-side \*to “Long and Winding Road,” which is why its chart position was tied to that of the more obvious hit. There were a lot of those on this list (denoted by asterisks).

The radio in the really early 70s was suffused with melancholy IMO related to the Beatles breakup. That’s like everyone, not only the artists, but the industry the DJs and the audience.  
When I hear Badfinger I think of this. RIP Pete Ham and Tom Evans.
