I suppose any country outside Taiwan could be addressed as well, but I’m looking for the best way to watch Taiwanese TV in the US. Ideally the format for picking between channels would be the same as navigating through the TV guide. I’m using a Roku stick attached to an old Vizio TV with the Taiwan Mega Pack but it’s weirdly complicated to get to the TV channels. It also comes with a bunch of US channels which just clutter it up. My family member is very technologically unsavvy, Taiwanese, and needs to be able to watch Taiwanese TV as easily as possible. Pretend money is no object, but I would like to avoid installing satellite dishes if possible.

I suppose what you want is IPTV (stream it over the Internet):

> Internet Protocol television (IPTV) is the delivery of television content over Internet Protocol (IP) networks. This is in contrast to delivery through traditional terrestrial, satellite, and cable television formats. Unlike downloaded media, IPTV offers the ability to stream the source media continuously. As a result, a client media player can begin playing the content (such as a TV channel) almost immediately. This is known as streaming media....

It sounds like you need a curated list of channels so that you have the channels you want but no clutter.

I was able to do this once with “Kodi” and I eventually got the TV guide working, but it was a lot of work. Still, see [here](https://www.videoconverterfactory.com/tips/kodi-iptv.html). At the very least, if you follow the [link](https://github.com/iptv-org/iptv) given there, there is a github repository currently including 87 publicly available Taiwanese channels. The streams can also be opened in your browser or any other video streaming app, of course.

I start my search for Internet TV by going to [this site](https://wwitv.com/portal.htm).

These are helpful but it’s looking like there probably be isn’t anything as simple as I’m hoping for. An alternative is a way for the Taiwanese channel to just be the thing that loads up when you turn on the TV. From what I could find that isn’t possible with the Roku stick but does anyone know if you can do that with the Roku TCL TVs?

Seems like the best way is to get a VPN and log into a Taiwanese server.

Unless I can automate that somehow my family member will never be able to do those steps. I just need it to automatically go to a Roku channel but that doesn’t seem to be an option.

Get away from Roku which is very limited as you’ve found. Get an Android Box and possibly Kodi which is much more customizable.

It looks like I can put Kodi on an Amazon Fire stick or even the Roku so I might try that route. Thanks!

Here’s some tips on Chinese channel related add-ons for Kodi.
