Best and Worst Board Games

Hm. I’ve never played Dominion, but given that those quirky interactions are my favorite part of Magic: the Gathering, it sounds like I’d probably like it.

I do.

Do straight up dice games count as board games? If they do, then I can list Cosmic Wimpout as one of my favorites. Easy to teach, easy to learn and lots of fun.

And if straight up card games count then I can mention Illuminati, Nuclear War and Grass.

Aye; I’m a big fan of ‘beer & pretzel’ games.

Spent much time playing Cosmic Wimpout in my youth. I didn’t think it still existed. My son got me a zombie dice game that had a similar feel.

I’ve heard of Nuclear War, but I’ve never played it.Sounds fun.

BTW- anyone have a good board game for 6 people (3 couples)? A lot of the games we have are for 4 or 5. We played Pandemic with six, but it felt pretty different from the usual 4 person play.

I thought Illuminati was meh, but I loved the card names.
Nuke War is killer; I just hated sitting on a 100 Megaton card and searching in vain for a Saturn missile.
Never played Grass before.

Way back when I was also very much into Cosmic Encounter.

:frowning: I love Advanced Squad Leader…

Best beer and pretzel game: Red November

“Red November is a cooperative game in a gnomish attack submarine where everything is going wrong. The sub is descending and the water pressure increasing, the nuclear reactor is overheating, the nuclear missile launchers are pre-igniting, fires and water leaks are everywhere, there’s a giant Kraken looming nearby and there’s very little oxygen and vodka left.”

The goal of the game is to somehow survive for an hour. Every action you take to fix something takes time, and as time advances, random draws can make more things go wrong. It’s a ton of fun, and you can wrap up a game in an hour.

That does indeed sound like a ton of fun, but I don’t know that it’s $80 worth of fun. From what I can gather, the game is OOP despite only being 9 years old.

You and I are way too close on things, it’s like you’re me sometimes. Now if we ever meet up we’ll have to play some Wimpout.

Can do; I keep the dice bag handy on a bookshelf.

Dang. At least it’s cheaper on Ebay.

Not by much. A new one is listed for $70. I do see used ones for as little as $20, but I’d hate to get one and find out after it showed up that it was missing parts or something.

It’s cool; I can wait for a re-issue.
