I saw [Oldboy](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oldboy) on a first date. We did not have a second.

An all-time great night at the drive-in, even if it might not count strictly as a date, was when Mrs. J. and me plus our guinea pig Eno went to see “White Line Fever” and “The Hills Have Eyes” (original version).

That was a real window-fogging experience.

Boxing Helena would be an inspired choice for a guy. Or The Collector.

From my personal experience, I don’t recommend ‘Lawnmower Man 2’ as a date movie.

I agree on ‘Crouching Tiger’ being a good date movie.

I took a lovely young lady on a first date to **The Princess Bride**.

We had sex for about 2 weeks nonstop!

Best date movie I ever saw!

Dunno if it’s the worst-ever date movie, but **Species** [and maybe the sequel, but I don’t remember that one] should be on the list. Especially if it’s the woman’s idea to go see it.

As for the unfortunate guy who took a woman to see **Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life** , you just took the wrong woman! I happen to love, love, _love_ that movie and have forced it on others, refer to it and its songs fairly frequently [considering], and patterned a Grim Reaper Halloween costume after the Reaper in the movie.

My brother and sister-in-law saw _Cobb_ on their first date, which has to be one of the least romantic movies of all time. (For those who haven’t seen it, it’s the story of Ty Cobb, the violent, profane, and racist baseball player–all of which characteristics are grossly exaggerated in the movie.)

Also, I have to think _Glengarry Glen Ross_ would be right up there.

Probably because it’s one of the hardest things to watch on film.

Or maybe you two just didn’t hit it off.

Blade Runner and Army of Darkness have both served me well. And while I’ve never tried this myself, I can’t imagine anything Star Trek would be a good date movie. Not even the one with the whales.

A few years ago, longer then I care to admit actually, I took out a really sweet girl to a sneak preview, (i.e. you get to see a movie that is not yet in rotation, but they don’t tell what movie it is) she was one of the most innocent girls I ever dated, would blush at the even the slightest reference to anything sexual,
Anyway the movie was Quills; I remember hearing her say as during the first scene “Oh, a costume drama, I like those”,

Yep, I took a girl on a first date to a movie about the Marquis de Sade,

And yes I did get some, and no there were no chains involved

It’s been mentioned already, but from the Norsk comic strip “Pondus” (translated from memory):

Jokke: Any news from the dating front, Turid-Laila?
Turid-Laila: I thought I had something going, but it didn’t work out.
J: What happened?
T-L: We watched a video at his house. Candlelight, good wine, snacks on the coffee table, and he burbled with laughter through the whole movie.
J: That doesn’t sound bad at all, are you sure you’re not just being picky?
T-L: We were watching _Schindler’s List._
J: Keep looking.

I think that [Jerry Maguire](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116695/) is the ultimate date movie. It’s full of attractive people, many of whom are sympathetic. There’s a redemption story, and the single Mom gets the lead guy. Also, lots of sports. I thought Renee Zellweger looked about 12 years old in the movie, so it lost a lot of points for me, but I enjoyed it. So did **Mama Zappa**.

I had a very uncomfortable first or second date watching [Black Sunday](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075765/) when it first came out. We were 17 at the time. Football (neither of us were fans), terrorism, and a bad Joe Namath impression - not a good date movie. Not a great movie at all, as I recall.

Fight Club didn’t work out too well for me. I would have thought taking her to a movie with Brad Pitt in the buff would be worth _some_ points at least . . .

In the other thread I mentioned that I went on a date with a young lady from NZ who picked _Once Were Warriors_ as a first date movie. What I didn’t mention was that on a later date we saw _Pret-a-Porter_ which also sucked as a date movie, though obviously not as heinously. Honestly, after _Once Were Warriors_ it was a miracle we ever saw each other again. (ETA: she wanted to see _Heavenly Creatures_ but it was sold out. I mean, really.)

Looking back my ex-wife and I saw a bunch of movies which could be on the top of the list of “best date movies,” including the aforementioned _Romeo + Juliet_ and _Shakespeare in Love_, as well as _You’ve Got Mail_ (which my ex kept calling “Have I Got Mail for You”). Movies we saw which don’t belong on that list: _Festen_ and _The Dream Life of Angels_. And then there was _Ma Vie en Rose_, which could either be on the best or the worst list.

I took a girl to go see _Kill Bill vol. 1_ on a first date. Let’s see, killing of a bridal party, rape of a comatose woman, blood splurting everywehre. Never went out with her again, and it wasn’t for lack of trying.

My first date ever back in high school, I took a girl to see “The Little Mermaid.”

On the surface, that sounds like a pleasant date movie.

In reality, it’s AWFUL. Screaming kids everywhere prevent any teenage boy from making an easy move. And let’s be honest-- it’s a _kids_ movie. A GOOD kids movie, but still one just the same.

Best date movie I ever went on? The Departed, a week after I started dating my current GF. She loved it, which told me all I needed to know about her ;-).

Not even to take her to see _Kill Bill Vol. 2_? You’re well rid of her then. I’m lucky - my wife loves _Kill Bill_. She went to see _Fight Club_ before I did then saw it again with me.

8MM. Could be the best or worst date movie, depending on who you’re dating and what your respective plans for the relationship are. I made love with a woman for hours after taking her to this movie, but she kept calling me Nicolas and insisting that I hold a knife to her throat while we did it. The next week, I took a different girl to the film, and she ran from the ampitheatre in tears.
