A shout out cameo being a cameo from a remake of a movie or TV show by someone from the original. The cameo can be the same character from the original or a new character.

Best would be from the Brady Bunch movie, Ann B Davis as the trucker Shultzie. Not only is Davis from the original Brady Bunch, but her cameo is named after another character she payed, from the Bob Cummings Show. The character serves a purpose rather than being a cameo-for-cameo’s sake and advances the story.

Worst is Jacklyn Smith as Kelley Garrett in _Charlies Angels: Full Throttle_. Yeah it sort of advanced the plot, but it was pretty much completely stupid. Smith did a terrible job with it and it was just overall a screeching halt-point.

Not a cameo - he was a major character in several episodes - but Richard Hatch appearing on the new Battlestar Galactica has got to get an honourable mention.

**Burt Reynolds** showing up in the remake of _The Longest Yard_ probably deserves mention. Granted, I won’t even bother to watch the insult that is the Adam Sandler version so I won’t call it a good cameo or not.

OK, let’s recall that the theme is “best and worst.” The mere existence of a cameo is insufficient. Explain why you think your choice is the best or worst.

I liked the appearance of Molly Ringwald in **Not Another Teen Movie**. As soon as I heard her voice, I started laughing. The fact that her final line was “Fucking teenagers”, was great.

Fay Wray was going to utter the last line in the the King Kong remake, but she died ☹ (but that woulkd have been way cool IMHO)

The movie wasn’t very good, but Charlten Heston as an Ape (damn diry humans) in the PotA remake was a nice touch.

Not exactly what you are asking for, but Bob Kane had a cameo in Burton’s Batman.

Martin Sheen’s cameo in _Hot Shots, Part Deux_ is what always comes to mind for me. They get to play on _Apocalypse Now_,\* Platoon\*, _Wall Street_, and the familial connection to Charlie Sheen in a span of about 20 seconds.

James Garner, the original Maverick, had a role in Mel Gibson’s movie _Maverick_.
(The movie also had [other interesting cameos](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110478/trivia), including one by Danny Glover.)

Faye Dunaway in the Pierce Brosnan/Rene Russo remake of The Thomas Crown Affair. She plays Brosnan’s shrink in several interstitial scenes, despite the fact that it’s totally out of character for Brosnan to have a shrink. The scenes give you information about Brosnan’s motives that the movie would do better to conceal until they pay off so the suspense is maintained, and Dunaway does a horrible, horrible job.

Not really. The artists depiction of Batman on the front cover of the newspaper in the movie was drawn by him but he never had any actual screen time.

Finally, someone who actually gets the premise of the thread.

Not that complicated, people. The cameo:

1. has to be in a remake;
2. has to involve someone who was in the original; and
3. has to include an explanation as to why you think it’s either the best or worst such cameo.

Martin Sheen in a Hot Shots movie doesn’t count (not a remake).
Molly Ringwald in NATM doesn’t count (not a remake).

Joanna Barnes in the 1998 version of _The Parent Trap_. I thought it was perfect–she was the girlfriend in the original version, and used the name Vicky in both movies. In the remake, she exuded the same saccharine insincerity as she did in the original, and I thought it was a nice touch to cast her as the girlfriend’s mother in the new movie.
