I always had a soft spot for [The Snivelling Shits](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Snivelling_Shits). How can you go past recommendations like: “an iconoclastic mantra of amphetamine-induced sexual dysfunction” “the Snivelling Shits reduced every cliché of the era to as few chords as possible, then spattered them with a stupidity that would have been rank if it wasn’t so magnificent” ---

I knew a guy who was reckless in his music buying. He bought one by **Dirty John’s Hot Dog Stand,** just because he liked the name. It sucked. ---

The musicianship when they started out was very ramshackle, but it has improved over the last twenty years or so, and has now risen to the merely competent. The thing with Half Man Half Biscuit is that Nigel is one of the most acute and funny and bitter lyricists in the history of popular music. ---

Dino, Desi and Billy! Who wouldn’t buy a record by a band called Dino, Desi and Billy? Probably not two records, but one, for sure! I also get a wry chuckle out of the name Lyle Lovett and his Large Band. Not sure why. ---

A fellow Art Director in the early 80s would take a long lunch on paydays and come back with a stack of vinyl. With band names like _“Agent Orange”_ or _“Throbbing Gristle”_. I still think _“Dead Kennedys”_ was bold for the time. Bolder than the _“Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza”_. And I like _“Death Cab for Cutie”_, but only because it was first a song by (ready for cooler band name?) … _The Bonzo Dog Band!_ ---
