Best Beginner's Guitar to Buy?

Once you get into the mid-range and higher ($500+), I’d be hard pressed to give a firm recommendation, but under that $500 mark, the Seagull S6 (any variant with the cedar top) is by far the best guitar I’ve played, and I’ve probably tried 100+ over several guitar shopping periods.

Warm, resonant, and fantastic projection, it actually competes pretty well with any guitar with laminate back and sides (including the ~ $1000 lower level Taylors and Martins). The main drawback is that the cedar top is easy to scratch and ding u, but the lush tones more than make up for it. Also, compared with higher end spruce top guitars, the tone may be considered a bit muddy, but it is certainly one of the absolute kings of its price range.

Of course, your mileage may vary, and make sure to try the specific guitar you buy (since even within the same model, there may be some “lemons”).
