Without peeking at the link first, I would think a city like Phoenix would be the worst. Best might be Chicago because they could feast on our plethora of gang-bangers and thugs. and no one would give a damn or help the police.

The thing is, we have a couple of choices when it comes to best cities for vampires:
1. Old, rich vampires - WTH would they want to live in the USA anyway? Pick somewhere the politicians look the other way for people with enough wealth and they’re fine with feeding off the lowest economic rungs AND less likely to be caught on video by someone. And even if caught, the authorities can and will discredit or remove such witnesses.
2. Old poor vampires and young poor vampires - well, they’re screwed. If you’re poor (and apparently your powers don’t involve charm / seduction to improve said financial status, or else why?), you don’t have a lot of options to move, anymore than a poor IRL individual has the wherewithal to pick up and movie across the country without serious issues. Probably working a late night shift to cover expenses (sans food of course) and has to settle for being as safe a hunter as circumstances allow.
3. Young Rich Vampires! - now _here’s_ the market for the OPs list. Why would you want to live like some plantation lord of years gone by? You want to live in the hippest place possible, and your wealth allows it. Sure, there are risks, but you’re young and rich, and as such, you already probably feel stupidly entitled. I’m guessing Portland for nouveau riche, New Orleans for the the snobbish, and New York as a catch all.
Or for the last category, just travel the world in your personal super-liner. I mean, really, if you’ve got silly levels of vampiric wealth, makes no sense to have just once city when every port is open to you, including less-well-off spots for hunting, and the tippy-top of the jet-set for hobnobbing in the popular hotspots of the world?

Doesn’t surprise me that Portland is on the list. The streetlighting is pretty dim there, lots of trees to hind behind, lots of city-dwelling critters for familiars.

In the Interview With the Vampire reboot on AMC, present-day Louis lives in Dubai presumably for this very reason.

Y’know, I was thinking that Portland or Seattle would be good for their high degree of overcast, but even the Pacific Northwest can see the Sun poking through occasionally, and without much warning. When even a single sunbeam can reduce you to ash, that’s probably not a chance you want to take. No, no matter where you are, you’re going to want to rely on a solid constructed roof and walls during the day, and the weather beyond that roof and walls would be irrelevant. Better to pick based on things like the ease of hunting.

I have a very strong memory of being told about all the tunnels in Montreal that are used for moving between buildings downtown when there’s heavy snow, but I’m not sure about Toronto.

I mean, we do have a series of deep subterranean vaults underneath the streets of downtown.

We have several threads on which myths about vampires apply, but I always went with the one where in old cameras, using mirrors, did not capture vampires properly. With modern digital imaging, not the same thing. But that’s not this thread, so I’ll simplify the point - in a wealth-for-power nation, it doesn’t matter if you are identified during a hunt if the government is happy to suppress or remove said witness for you.
Still the same point, but we can dodge the ‘caught on video’ debate. Win for all!
