Time, also as in age. You finally reach a point where you start to listen to your inner voice that says, “Don’t have another. In fact, don’t even finish the drink you’re holding in your hand now.” You do what that voice says and are much the better for it the next day. ---

The best way to avoid a hangover, once you’ve already done the drinking, is water. Before going to bed, drink a big glass of water. Drink another. Brush your teeth, and get ready for bed. Drink another. When you wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, drink another. ---

I agree with the water/Gatorade/ Advil recipe, but would also add a little exercise. If you can move at all, take a walk. It gets the blood moving and you can sweat out some of the toxins. ---

Goody’s headache powder ( aspirin & caffeine), a couple of multi vitamins, and water. Usually done before bedtime. Also, because I am a lightweight, I do a wine, water, wine, water all night long, thereby either saving my liver or drowning it and allowing me to stay up past 9pm. ---

When you’ve done your worst though, a swig of Mylanta, plenty of cold Gatorade and a cheeseburger will initiate your trip back to normalcy. ---

Prevention is best–I drink a crapload of water before I go to bed. Then more if I get up to go to the bathroom during the night. So far, no hangovers. ---

In grad school a British friend of mine recommended her favorite hangover cure: before bed, take two Advil and drink a mug of strong English breakfast tea. It worked every time. ---

The biggest baddest burger you can buy on the way home. We used to have a 24 hour KFC down the road which we’d go to at 4am, buy Zinger Works burgers and wolf them down. Never had a hangover the next morning. ---

I actually made a version of that the other day, subbing in some other fermented agents. Great soup! Only thing it’s missing for a hangover is a good kick of spice. Generally, when hungover, I liked pickle juice and spicy pickled peppers (and possibly their juice). I’m assuming it’s the salt that was most helpful. I’m not sure what the sourness brings, but I find a lot of worldwide hangover cures seem to include an element of sour. Also, a bit of fat and protein helps, but generally, just pickle juice would work fine for me. ---

This is a Zombie thread, but I will contribute my favourite cure. Perhaps “cure” is a little over-ambitious… but still: Locate a swimming pool with a 10m diving board. Climb up. Jump, or dive. Immediately exit the diving pool and do one full length in the full-size pool (Olympic, so 50m) underwater. You may start to see red spots in your vision, this is just your body’s way of asking you what the fuck you are doing. Don’t be alarmed. Exit the pool. Go to a bar. Drink two beers.
