I’ve had a few people collide with me over the years of driving. I only had one instance where the counterparty lied to the police when they showed up, but the 3 witnesses that stayed, all corroborated my story. So 35 years of driving, not a single instance where a dash cam would have made a difference. I guess there is the possibility that it might some day, but until they come standard on cars, I’m not too keen on running cables and wires around my car.

I’ve been here less than 3 months and have seen 3 car accidents within 300 meters of where I live, one time I witnessed one happen right in front of me. I don’t live on a busy street nor one with businesses, strange traffic patterns, or even many entrances to housing estates. I fear that my car’s bumper has a bullseye on it…

I could say the same thing about the helmet I wear while riding my motorcycle, since there hasn’t been a single instance in 175,000 miles it would have made a difference. Can you see the fallacy in that thinking?

Which brings up an interesting point. Many cars these days are equipped with cameras, and memory is now dirt-cheap; I’m surprised that cars with forward-facing cameras and side cameras don’t already come with built-in recording capability.
