What is the best domain name registration service for personal websites?

I’m looking for a service that will register a dot-com for me, and then redirect traffic from my dot-com to my pre-existing website.
[http://www.JohnDoe.com](http://www.JohnDoe.com) —\> [http://www.geocites.com/jdoe347](http://www.geocites.com/jdoe347)
From my quick research, I’ve found:

Are there others that are really good and pretty cheap (~$30 US/year)?

One’s probably as good as another. I’ve used [register.com](http://register.com) several times. They are $35/yr.

You really want two things: a) to own a domain, and b) to point it to your site. [register.com](http://register.com) will take care of #a. The pointing-it-to-your-site part will require the involvement of your existing hosting company ([geocities.com](http://geocities.com) in your example). There’s a good chance they’ll charge you for that, perhaps a one-time fee, perhaps a monthly fee. If you’d like to use the domain for e-mail as well, [geocities.com](http://geocities.com) will probably charge for that too.

Check out

They have domain registration for $25/yr, and no monthly fee for 1MB of space. They do have a fairly steep setup fee of $99. That last bit kind of sucks.

I have a personal site at

> **[Website Hosting | Pair Networks | Shared Hosting, Managed WordPress, & more](https://www.pair.com/)**
>
> Pair is a website hosting company with over 25 years of experience, 99.9% server uptime, and a variety of powerful web hosting plans available, all backed by 24/7, friendly tech support from real employees.

Their basic account is cheap ($5 set-up and $4.95 per month, 30MB disk space.)

I don’t think they do redirection like you want, but on the other hand for a low price you can have a website with no advertisements.

I use my local ISP for business clients, $39 setup. They don’t know what they are doing sometimes.

Other times I use WebJump because it costs nothing other than the name registration charges everyone has to pay anyway [$70 two years]. Then you get a free 25 meg weg site with cgi bin. But they do have an ad at the top of your pages thats why I only use them for a two year account of someones name, usually someone running for office (hint) 🙂
