Tainting potato chips with ingredients other than salt is not new. Barbeque-flavored potato chips have been around for a while, as have sour-cream-and-onion. Lately the market seems to have exploded, with a whole lot of interesting flavors. A couple of personal favorites: Detroit-base McClure’s offers [Bloody Mary flavored chips,](http://www.mcclurespickles.com/products/potato-chips) which are pretty good. Kettle makes [sea-salt-and-malt-vinegar chips](http://www.kettlebrand.com/our_products/potato_chips/#/our_products/potato_chips/?pid=10), which are nice and tangy. What else ya got? What flavors should I avoid? ---

Utz Red Hot potato chips are my personal favorite, with Utz Rippled Sour Cream and Onion a close second. ---

Sour cream and cheddar are still my go to flavor of potato chip. If you allow any kind of chip, it goes to harvest cheddar Sun Chips. The Lays gouda and chive flavor was surprisingly good, but it still doesn’t quite push out my favorite. I may have a thing for cheese flavored chips. ---

Plain. Everybody in my family thinks I’m strange because I like my chips with salt only. Lightly salted, if possible. I will also eat cracked pepper and salt chips and once had Old Bay gourmet chips that were divine. ---

Last year’s Lay’s Do Us a Flavor New York Reuben were [excellent](http://www.theimpulsivebuy.com/wordpress/2015/07/28/review-lays-do-us-a-flavor-new-york-reuben-potato-chips/). You could really taste the caraway, corned beef, sauerkraut and Russian dressing. Intriguingly, the label even listed “New York Reuben Seasoning” as an ingredient. Was kinda hoping that one makes a comeback but nope, they went [traditional](http://www.fritolay.com/blog/blog-post/snack-chat/2016/01/25/it-s-time-to-test-your-taste-buds-with-lay-s-brand-flavor-swap.htm)this year. Boooooooo. ---

Tim’s Cascade Dill Pickle chips are amazing. If only they weren’t “kettle chips.” I refuse to eat those shards of broken glass. For “boutique” chips, the ketchup chips that used to be gratis at bars at Wynn Resort in Las Vegas were worth the drink prices. ---

Pickled Onion flavoured crisps (which might be a UK/Ireland thing) have the ability to stun the person opening the packet. ---

I used to be a huge fan of Jalepeno Krunchers. Had a small bag for lunch every day in high school. Then a few years ago, I discovered a jalepeno-cheddar kettle chip. Don’t remember the brand (wasn’t Lays or any other major brand), but it was quite possibly the most perfectly flavored chip ever created. ---

For eating with dip, I prefer plain. Without dip, my new favorite is Wegmans’ Buffalo Blue Cheese Potato Chips. Not only do they taste great, I can have the whole bag myself because nobody else wants to eat buffalo chips. Unfortunately there’s no Wegmans near me, so I only get them when visiting relatives in New York and Maryland. ---

Without the salt much more of the actual potato flavor shines through. Highly recommended. As much of a fan of unflavored chips as I am, I have fallen in love with Trader Joe’s Black Pepper and Sea Salt variety. Quite toothsome.
