Inspired by all the recent “Best” music threads, I have another:

What’s your favorite “hidden track” on a CD?

Among the ones that jump out for me, personally, are:

Nirvana’s “Nameless/Faceless” (I think that’s the name…that’s the problem with hidden tracks) from _Nevermind_.

Counting Crows’ “Chelsea” from _Across a Wire_. Adam Duritz just sings with such pain…“there’s something about an angel that just kills me…I keep hoping something will.”

Speaking of Counting Crows, I also liked their cover of “Big Yellow Taxi,” from _Hard Candy_. At least until they mixed in Vanessa Carlton singing backup.

“I’m the Boy” (that’s what I call it, anyway) by Wilco. Track 16 on _Summerteeth_. It also has an alternative version of “A Shot In the Arm,” by “I’m the Boy” is so…upbeat.

There was one from Nine Inch Nails…I think it was like track 99 or something. But I don’t remember which album it was.

What are your favorites?

I’ve always loved the “can you take me back…” ditty that McCartney sings between “Cry Baby Cry” and “Revolution #9” It’s a track hidden in a track.

My favorites are Jack Off Jill’s cover of the Cure’s “Love Song” on _Clear Hearts Gray Flowers_ and Anorexia Nervosa’s cover of Candlemass’ “Solitude” on _New Obscurantis Order_.

You’re thinking of “Broken”. There are two tracks at the end - a cover of Adam Ant’s “Physical” and an alternate version of a track Trent did with Pigface called “Suck”.

As an aside, the early editions of “Broken” only had six songs on the cd and came with a 3" mini-cd containing those two tracks. I have that version 🆒

Cracker’s **Euro-Trash Girl** on Kerosene Hat (Track 69).

The track is “Candyfloss” and yes, it is the best track on the album! (I think I listed this one a while back in a thread about songs that make you hit the repeat button.)

On his album **Comedy** Aussie icon Paul Kelly has an uncredited track that consists of nothing but

“One David Gower,
There’s only one David Gower”

repeated over and over again to the tune of Guantanamera (I think).

What makes it really cool is that David Gower is/was an English cricketer and ordinarily should be hated by Aussies but we liked him.

Worst: the English Blues at the end of Second Coming by Stone Roses. Not even good humorously.

Track 16? Track 15 is silence, for around that time period.

And, **Shoeless** , I caught the title after I hit “post.” I should have googled a little sooner.

I don’t think I’ve ever been more shocked to see someone already mention what I specifically opened the thread to mention. Bravo, good sir!

The hidden track on Glassjaw’s _Everything You Ever Wanter To Know About Silence_. It’s a short, sad little song with only a piano as accompianment, which stands out against the rest of the album, which is all screamy and angry.

Maybe the weirdest is “Evil Dildo” on _Without You I’m Nothing_ by Placebo. It’s a random techno track with threatening voice mail that the band recieved mixed in.

Seconded. But you’re also missing the _other_ hidden song on that disc, the also excellent “I’ll Ride My Bike,” which totally rocks (and even more so when they play live).

The track by **The Dead Milkmen** that appears at the end of _Metaphysical Graffiti_. You know, the one that asks you if you ever went to make a pork sausage and found it’s got hairs growing all over it? Brilliant. (Similar to _Stuart_, though _Stuart_ isn’t a hidden track. If it were, then it’d be my favorite hidden track.)

::tips hat::

Thanks!

Since **minty** mentioned the live brilliance of “I’ll Ride My Bike” let me tell you a story. The first time I saw Cracker live (ca. 1992) they were about to play Euro-Trash Girl when David stopped the band and told the crowd “The song is called ‘Euro-Trash Girl’ NOT ‘You’re a Trash Girl.’ It doesn’t make it any less sexist but you should at least sing the words correctly.” It was hilarious.

Plus they were all wearing dresses.

Seconded. Dear Og, that’s painfully annoying. Plus I used to have a really crappy CD player that had a fit every time I put that disc in - 99 tracks was apparently a bit more than it could handle easily.

My favourite is probably Travis’s “Blue Flashing Light” at the end of _The Man Who_.
