This is going to be another runaway whupping on a year that should have been competitive, just because the one track/act to achieve iconic standing and too many other good ones to have any single one get anywhere close. I mean, we’ve got good solid installments from En Vogue (rrrowrrr), TLC, Clapton, Prince, Sophie B., House of Pain, the Chilies, G&R, Nirvana – but we know Kurt & Co. will just walk with this poll.
Anyone who votes for Miley’s daddy will be obviously doing so just for the evilulz…
En Vogue’s “My Lovin’” for me. Love that song.
I adore Prince but I hate “Diamonds and Pearls.”
Considered “Under the Bridge.”
Sorry. Nirvana blows everyone else out of the water.
Under The Bridge has held up for me much better than* Teen Spirit*, so it gets my vote.
Dang, I don’t think I can vote on these. It’s a tie amongst En Vogue, the Chili Peppers, Tom Cochrane, and Sophie B. Hawkins.
I’m kind of surprised Jump Around isn’t doing better. The opening strains of that song can fill any dance floor.
You mean “Damn, I cannot pull a lever.”
I’m kicking myself for not having posted that!
I SHOULD go with “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” partly because I like the song and partly because I live in “Kurt Cobain Country.” But the truth is that of the songs listed the one I like best is CeCe Peniston’s “Finally.” So there ya go…
One vote for Billy Ray. (YeeeHaaaw)
On your behalf. And for the same sentiment.
This. 92 is a world of suck.
I’m not a big fan of either Nirvana or the Chili Peppers, and I don’t think “Tears in Heaven” has aged well. IOW, so much for the top three vote-getters so far.
I went with “Life Is A Highway.” I’d probably be tired to death of it if the ‘Classic Rock Era’ had extended far enough into the 1990s to pick up on this song and play it into the ground from then until now. But it didn’t, so I’ve heard it only a few times since the mid-1990s, so I’m still favorably disposed towards it.
There was some stiff competition, but I voted for “Tennessee.” I prefer the Rascal Flatts version of “Life is a Highway” (12-year-old me is horrified that I like a country song!) and “Teen Spirit” has been played to death. (Do they even make that deodorant brand anymore?)
RHCP was the runner-up. “Tears in Heaven” is one of those songs that I can listen to once and then never again because Clapton feels it too much. (See also: Johnny Cash’s version of “Hurt.”)
I did like the peppy dancy songs of the early 90s. Good times.
there are slightly more than zero songs on this list that would not make me change the channel if they came on while I was driving.
Nirvana…once upon a time this was an ordinary Nirvana track, but living in Seattle I am pretty sure I have heard this song more times in my life than Stairway to Heaven.
Under the Bridge…Fuck this Shitty Shitty RHCP track, it was terrible when they released it and its endless over play does not help. Its like one of those 80’s hair bands whos only hit was some super crappy power ballad except RHCP has a ton of fantastic songs that never get played because this turd is hogging the punch bowl.
Screw all y’all, this was a damn fine year for music. I voted for En Vogue because I figured Nirvana and Chili Peppers didn’t need help.
