Drops of Jupiter by Train got it, edging out Madonna. Like Matchbox 20 but not that song. Incubus got my vote for Alternative #1 so I wanted to vote for something different. There it is, Train. ---

Voted for Staind, not because it’s good, but because none of them are really songs that I like, but at least I got to third base for the first time while this song was on. I tuned out of popular music from about 2001 through 2008 or so. I think I’m seeing why. ---

My vote will come later on, but I hope this post will tide you over until then. Does anyone else remember “Start the Commotion”? It was an unknown song until it was used in a Mitsubishi car commercial in which people groove to the song as they ride in their Mitsubishi. The song seemed to be EVERYWHERE in the summer of 2001, but apparently it didn’t chart as high as I would have guessed. ---

It went something like this “Get UP Get up something something start a commotion”. A part would go “baba baba”. It was fast paced and dance like. We better find out! ---

I considered “Ride wit Me,” “Drive,” “Survivor,” “South Side,” and “Get Your Freak On.” I ended up voting for “Ride wit Me” in a very tight five-way contest. One of music’s great paradoxes concerns Dido’s “Thank You.” How can the sample from “Thank You” be so great in Eminem’s “Stan,” yet the original song “Thank You” be so crappy? As for “He Loves You Not,” it’s a pretty terrible song, but the video is quite wonderful (in a potentially underage way. I’m not sure how old the group members were back then). ---

Trying to decide if I should strategically vote to try to defeat that Train song, since it has the corniest lyrics of any pop song I remember hearing until they eclipsed themselves with “Hey Soul Sister.” I don’t like many of the songs. I liked Matchbox Twenty and Incubus at the time, but they don’t hold up for me. Could probably go with Missy Elliott as the best of the top contenders. ---
