There were ties in '03, '07 and '08, so there are 13 choices. An interesting list, though not as many great albums (IMO) as the '80s and '90s. Still deciding between Outkast and The New Pornographers.

Not a lot of love for the music of the 2000s, it seems. I ended up going with Outkast.

Could the lack of enthusiasm (so far) reflect a decline in the “album” as a cohesive, culturally important art form?

Probably. Napster was what - '99? And the iTunes store was '03, so it makes sense.
