I get your hesitation re glue traps but mice can carry diseases and they shit everywhere so … I still go glue traps and snap traps. Glue traps really are the way to go if you want both safety and effectiveness. Put snap traps up on the counters if you want them away from the dog and the glue traps on the floor.
I actually tried these and got nothing. They didn’t even steal the bait.
You have either a mouse shortage or a cat surplus.
I’m not going to go out and get more mice, but I have a feeling that as it gets colder they will find a new way in and kitty won’t be bored anymore.
I’ve had a ton of success with snap traps baited with peanut butter. The newer ones (usually called ‘quickset’ style) are reusable and you don’t have to touch the mouse at all. Just flick it open on one end of the trap, toss the mouse in the trash. Re-bait as needed and reset. I’ve caught almost a dozen with three traps this year.
The use of a box mentioned a few times upthread seems pretty smart. Mice love dark, enclosed spaces.
