I’ll be another to chime in for Photoshop Elements. I’ve been using it for a while now and I’ve yet to find anything that I need to do at home or with my website that I can’t do with it.
I also use the full version of Photoshop at work and the two are about identical in interface, basic features, etc. AND the files are compatible between the two, which is nice for sharing work.
We actually have PS Elements on quiite a few machines at the office as well for folks who need graphics and photo editing software but who aren’t doing print mechanicals, PMS color matching and so forth.
The photo-mosaic thing in PS Elements is pretty cool too. Here’s a three image panaroma of the area around the Mt. Saint Helens crater that I took last fall. It shows a little of the perspective correction control you have with the software, even though it’s kind of a lame panorama - I was still new to the software when I did it.
I didn’t say it was a “painting” program…I said I used “three, wait four programs for my photo and graphics:”
I do know the difference but since I was weighing in on graphics/photo programs as a whole, I figured I would give the complete story.
For my purposes, I frequently have to convert ai graphics into web graphics. But "painting’??? Never suggested that did I? If I did, I certainly didn’t say so and never implied it.
BTW, “painting” is for MS Paint, pure graphics (which includes excellent photo incorporation) for print is regularly developed at a very high resolution via Illustrator. Illustrator has been annoying for me to learn and I don’t have the $ to pick up a book on it so I haven’t learned it. – for those that don’t understand what we are discussing.
Usually Photoshop and Illustrator are used in conjunction for those cool ads you see in newspapers, magazines and some (apparently) are transferred to TV ads for continuity.
Then we get into Corel products and even another Adobe products and then we are taking things way out there for this thread.
Granted I am no expert but have been around this for many years now and wish I had the money, the resources mentally to get into full blown production, from web to print. Right now I will stick with the web.
This is an example of the Vegas Dopefest 2000 that was done entirely in Paint Shop Pro…can’t remember the PSP version but the graphics (and a few that don’t show up there anymore, before the fest,) but the graphics and the photos were done entirely in PSP using my Olympus D-460 ZOOM imported pics.
In addition, if you haven’t seen OpalCat’s website, she does a TON of stuff in PSP.
After work today I took some pictures around town. They’ve restored some old brick buildings downtown and they look pretty sharp. I also took some shots of the tallest building in town (20 stories…lol) and made a panorama with both Elements and Panorama Factory. TVGuy, mine didn’t even come close to yours, but I didn’t expect much out of a plain old building…I was just trying different things. The only thing bad about this is that my ink sure is going too fast, since I like to print out ones I end up happy with. I haven’t seen “Actions” on elements, so I don’t know what I’m missing there. So far I’ve messed with a lot of things in Elements, but not enough to get full use of it. I plan on doing that, as it looks like a great program.
