Best pizza in your neck of the woods?

Hmm lets try that again. The best pizza around here IMHO is Pizzeria Regina. (Sort of a micro chain in eastern Massachusetts.)

I go to Taconelli’s 1-2x a year, and it is the best pizza in the Philadelphia area. It is worth the ride, and worth planning ahead for… byo as well…

I don’t know about your area, but the local restaurant polls and awards around here are so obviously stuffed that it’s right past frustrating and straight on to just hilarious. There’s a good but by no means great place called Oregano’s that won EVERYTHING a couple years back-- even categories they shouldn’t have been entered in. They won something like “Best ‘Fast’ Lunch” for god’s sake-- at the time, my job had to tell everyone we were no longer allowed to go there for lunch because they were notorious for being the slowest place in town. It took 2 hours to get in and out for lunch, even when they weren’t particularly busy.

Actually, I know quite a few people who don’t care for Zelda’s pizza. I always put it down to being a thin crust/thick crust thing…

We have a place in Little Rock called Brick Oven Pizza. As the name suggests, they have a specially made brick oven that makes very crispy pizza crust.

No love for Oreganos?

In Colorado Springs, do NOT stop at Old Chicago Pizza. It’s horrible and service is crap. The night I was there, out of 5 tables (including ours) 4 had their orders messed up.

My neck of the woods: St Louis, MO.
Best pizza: Pi.

I like the locations in the Central West End and the Loop.

[Note: this is not St Louis style pizza, so you can stop yer gripin’ right now. ]

Frattelli’s in Rio Rancho (used to be A&K’s) is the best pizza in the area, IMHO. It’s a New York style (which is my personal preference) and the owner/operator is from back East. It’s just a little hole in the wall place.

Of the chains in town, Dion’s is really good (it’s a local chain though…don’t think it’s outside of New Mexico, but could be wrong there) and downtown there is a NYPD Pizza that’s not bad. Other than that, New Mexico is kind of a pizza wasteland, compared to places like New York…

Joplin, MO

Pizza By Stout–Going strong for about 25 years, founded by Willard Stout and still run by his daughter & son-in-law. English-style pub with a couple hundred varieties of beer. Best cinnamon rolls on Earth.

Has anyone in this thread ever eaten at a place called Carbone’s Pizza, in Las Vegas Nevada? It doesn’t exist anymore (it was in northern Las Vegas, well away from the Strip)…this was years ago (in the 70’s). Just wondering if anyone else ever ate there and, if so, what you remember.

Pizzeria Bianco is probably the best (maybe anywhere), but they are impossible to get into, so we tend to go to our runners-up: La Grande Orange, and Cafe Pino, both of which make superb pizzas.

See post #63

There’s one right down the street.
I think their pizza is good, but it’s over-the-top. I can only eat one slice - it’s just too thick.

Their pizzookie, on the other hand - now that is something magical!

I’ve been meaning to go there since El Presidente ordered it in. Likewise, here in Springfield, the best pizza is Rosati’s followed by Chicago Gyro for thin crust.

Hmm. A Rosati’s about 15 minutes from my house has been open for maybe the last year or so, and I was wondering if I should try it (especially since they sell by the slice, and you don’t see that all that much round these parts), but I’d heard some meh-ish reviews about the quality of the food, coupled with some more pointedly scathing reviews of the service, so I’d pretty much written it off.

My favorite pizza is Popa Johns, but th eone in my area closed last year. I hate most of the pizza in my area. Most of it is “Old Forge Pizza” which is: “This pizza is typically rectangular in shape with a balanced tangy sauce, and topped with a creamier cheese, similar to fontina or white American, on a crispy thicker crust.” - Old Forge, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania - Wikipedia

To me, it is plywood with spaghetti sauce and near liquid cheese. Yes, I know a lot of people love it, but it’s just not my thing.

My neck is the same! Love me some Imo’s, but I’ve been meaning to try Pi.

Here in Seattle, my favorites are Tutta Bella and Serious Pie.

For places I used to live, as mentioned above - Frankie Johnnie & Luigi Too in Mountain View. In the Pittsburgh area, Vincent’s (I hear Vince recently passed).

Hmmm, good to know, especially since “Boot & Shoe Service” is less than a mile from our house.

I’ve always been partial to Blondie’s–mostly because I lived off the stuff when going to Cal–and have a very soft spot for the potato-pesto at Escape from NY’s and religiously get a slice whenever I’m in the Castro or Haight.
