There was an [older 2009 thread](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/great-baseball-nicknames/494176) about baseball nicknames, but I didn’t want to revive that one and I’m really more interested in recent players. My nomination is Boston Red Sox prospect Jhostynxon _The Password_ Garcia. ---

No idea if this is a true Bermanism but it sure has his style: former Phillies outfielder Aaron “the Fresh Prince of” Altherr (pronounced all-TAIR), last seen playing in Mexico last year. ---

“The Password” just finished second to a fella known as “The Iowa Meat Truck” in a poll of “best nicknames in minor league baseball\*.” Other contenders included “Lord Tubbington,” “The Ice Cream Man” (a player called Hagen Danner in the Reds system) and “The Canadian Cannon.” I voted for the Meat Truck myself. “The Password” is good but a bit too reminiscent of a couple of earlier nicknames for players with hard-to-spell names: Doug “Eye Chart” Gwosdz, a catcher who spent several years with the Padres, and Marc “Scrabble” Rzepczynski, who pitched for the Jays, Cardinals, and several other teams. I actually like those ones better, though “The Password” is more in keeping with the times. \*Thus far The Password has been unable to find the right combination to unlock access to a steady job in the major leagues. He may have to change his to find success. ---

Some kind of legal pun was almost obligatory for New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge, but I do think that “All Rise” is pretty good. It’s way better than Chris Berman’s “Here Comes Da,” which is way too easy.
