# Best reply/view ratio? Which thread?

By best reply/view ratio, I guess I mean the thread with the most replies and the least views. Is there any way of finding this out? I’m not dying of curiosity, but it might prove interesting. While we’re here, might as well find out which post has the least replies/most views.

I think that any thread nominated will suffer from observer effect.

Right now the [Santo Rugger thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=516715) has 45104 views and 672 replies, giving it a ratio of 67,11 views per reply. That’s the best one I have found so far. A close second is the [doper picture](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=539257) thread (though it’s a sticky so that might be cheating) with 30700 views and 472 posts - a ratio of 65,04.
I strongly suspect that if someone can dig out the old NSFW doper picture thread it will win by a large margin.
ETA: I see that I have only answered your second query. As for the first I have no idea. I think it is a good idea to restrict this to threads that have had at least a certain number of views, 1000 for instance.

I’ve been involved in several threads (it’s been a while back) where that issue and related ones have been addressed. My best guess is that a hot and popular game will have the best ratio over the first page or so, but then the onlookers and those who check back without further posts will destroy whatever the ratio was early on. Getting better than 2:1 is a rarity, and it really hurts when it gets over 100:1. I have had several of that latter type!
I recall one (not it’s ID though) where we maintained both measures in two-digit numbers for a little while, before the Views began taking over.

Mundane Pointless Stuff I Must Share (MPSIMS)
Of course, any further views without replies will run the ratio further down, but it might be worth the read if you enjoy that sort of thing. I surely did, and I believe **NineToTheSky** and **Chez Guevara** did, too. One of my all-time favorite threads to have been involved in.

A major priority in getting the Board fixed back in the day was the implosion and utter destruction of an infinite number of realities: content-less OPs with multiple views were resulting in Internet-wide divide-by-zero errors. {{{shudder}}}

ETA: After this post, the ratio got even better. It’s now 20.42.

Yeah, but as I explained a bit further down in the same post, I misread the OP and answered his _second_ question, namely: What thread has the worst view-to-reply ratio?
