Saw Southside Johnny And The Asbury Jukes, and realized that it wasn’t just the insane amount of energy from the whole band, but the songs had some real depth (and a couple of good lines):
~
And you cry because things get so strange so fast.
And you cry because nothing good ever lasts…

Monday morning came so fast,
What a fool to think that dreams would last.

And more than one line… “I’m So Anxious” starts with:

Regardless of how long Ssounder has been around here he does have a valid point in regard to this thread. There are a good number of posts with lines that come across as pretty lame to us, yet they have a personal meaning to the poster. For example: “There’s a moon in the sky. They call it a moon.”. Is this an example of a best line in rock lyrics? Of course not. But, to the poster it may be touching in some sort of way. Yet, a line from a Tom Waits song says, “Don’t you know there ain’t no Devil, that’s just God when he’s drunk.” is clever, original, and packs a punch. That is, indeed, one of the best lines in rock lyrics without an explanation.
So, best lines as I understand the OP should really be universal.
I would be mighty pleased if everybody would kindly share the title of the song and the name of the artist. In the great tradition of the Dope: “Cite?”
Fair to say, I was just kidding around. I feel like lots of threads have a tendency to become about posters’ favorite whatever.
Yeah, it’s easy to get off track.
What else would the ‘best” be, if not your favourite?
The whole verse where a single line should be?
A verse is just a long line
Yes I’m fairly new to the Dope, but you have to admit there have been some very obscure and little known lyrics posted in this thread. I do realize that the “Best of” is mostly subjective, especially in music.
I also know this is all just for fun, but IMO some entries don’t stand alone to the readership without some brief analysis of why it touches you enough to elevate it to best.
It’s a minor quibble. -Carry on.
