Best Vegetation Killer?

I think this stuff is about 30% pure. It’s certainly not something you would cook with and you need to be a bit careful with it.

As I understand it, the environmentally approved method is to put down a few layers of cardboard over the area and then cover that with fresh, sterile dirt that you plant something into that you want to have growing in that zone. (If you don’t want anything to grow, you might put on sand, gravel, or something of that nature.)

This will kill most of the plants underneath but it probably doesn’t kill their seeds that are in the soil around them. So, from there, it’s really a matter of keeping those seeds at a depth too deep to want to grow and having too much competition above them to grow between. Worst case, you run another several layers of cardboard over top and try again.

diesel fuel.

The Round Up seems to finally be working. I can see some browning where I sprayed, and of course see where I missed spraying. I bought some blur marking liquid to mix in next time so I can see that I’ve covered the correct area.

This stuff works very fast. After application, you’ll see the plants wilting in a day. They’ll all be brown and dead in 3-4 days.

Where do you live that you have an issue with milkweed?

The loss of milkweed will likely end with the loss of monarch butterflies.

Indeed. We have an area where we specifically planted milkweed as a butterfly attractant.

Mid Missouri. I have no issue with milkweed in the woods, only growing in the middle of my gravel driveway. I don’t really have an issue with it in my yard either. I’m rural and have a YARD, not a LAWN. Weeds get mowed along with everything else.

We have a line of pokeweed separating our yard from our meadow. We think it is beautiful, and makes a very effective hedge, but some people hate pokeweed.

I think I’ve some of that along my wood line. I imaging birds and such like the berries.

Pokeweed berries are loved by birds, but toxic to mammals. They also stain clothing. My lawn mowing shirts are horribly stained.

This is the version of Roundup I used. As I said, it works fast (as the label says, effects can be seen in 24 hours) and it can be dispensed as a foam (it’s a nozzle selection) so you can see where you’ve sprayed. It also comes in a large 5-liter container with an electric pump. I don’t know if it’s available in all areas.

I have a two gallon electric sprayer, so I buy the concentrate and mix according to directions. The concentrates come in various strengths, but the one I have now is 2.5 Oz per gallon. I also add a marker color so it shows blue where I’ve sprayed. A little goes a long way and it’s difficult to get off your hands if you spill any of the concentrate. It fades in the sun in a few days.

Personally I wouldn’t want to be dealing with Roundup in concentrated form. I hope you at least wear rubber gloves when mixing!

No grass grows on me!

As a stoner, no moss grows on me, long as I keep rolling.
