I’m looking for the gentle touch. Basically I got some cologne I’m going to try. I sprayed a test spurt on some paper towel. Strong enough to take out the living and wake the dead, the scent was.

Needless to say just spraying it on directly seems like a bad idea. What’s the way to do this? I’ve heard of spraying a cloud and walking through it. Does that work? What about just dapping a bit on with some paper tower?
It’s Pi if that makes any difference.

I do the cloud and walk through it. It works well.

If it’s real strong, I spritz lightly, once, into the air and walk through. Or put one small drop way down inside my cleavage area.

Pi is a pretty nice scent, actually, and will dry down quite quickly so it won’t smell like you applied it using a crop duster after a few minutes.

I would put a half a spray on one wrist and push them together. OR put one spray on your neck. (Don’t do both). Both of those spots will warm up when you move around and you’ll get just a bit of scent.

Next time it’s time to purchase, if you shave you may want to consider getting the after shave lotion instead of the cologne. The amount of perfume oil in it is much less concentrated than in the eau de toilet so if you’re concerned about gagging people, it’s a bit easier to go light with the after shave lotion.

**Best way to apply cologne**

Sparingly.

If others can detect a lingering cloud of stink minutes after you left the area, you’ve applied too much.

Oops - I missed the edit. I wanted to add do _NOT_ apply it to your clothing. The perfume oils can damage the fabrics, and after time things will get a skunky scent. Apply it to your skin only.

Sparingly. Very sparingly.

If it’s cologne, I either do the “walk through the mist” thing or direct a squirt down my cleavage. Perfume - what **alice\_in\_wonderland** said - wrists, neck or cleavage.

The point isn’t to reek, no matter how good it smells. But to have subtle little hints of scent wafting around you as you move, that people only smell when they get close, or as you walk by.

Thanks for the heads up about the clothes! I’ll try the wrists thing tom an sé how it goes.

Or if your aroma arrives 5 minutes before you do, you’ve applied too much.

I had to have a SERIOUS talk with my daughter about perfume, application of. As in “more is not always better” sort of thing. I almost never wear makeup myself, so she had to learn from friends, mostly, but I did tell her that wearing too much perfume is something to avoid. Basically, I feel that if I can smell someone from a distance of greater than 5 feet, that person has too much scent on.

I have to be careful of this myself, as I wear Opium, which is quite a strong scent. I don’t wear it at all if I’m going to a doctor’s or dentist’s appointment, or if I’m going for a massage. I think Opium smells lovely, but if someone is going to have to be very close to me for half an hour or so, that might be too much. I’ll just smell like soap and shampoo.

The wrists worked great, although it was a bit strong. Accidentally did a whole squirt. It’s got a hair trigger.

On the rare occasions when I wear cologne, that’s what I do. One little spritz on the inside of a wrist, rub the insides of my wrists together, then rub my wrists on the sides of my neck (just underneath my ears; it’s a location where my wife likes the fragrance).
