Definitely. “Genius in France” is an example of what he calls a “style parody” where he writes an original work _in the style_ of another artist but he’s not directly parodying a particular song. The style parodies all definitely count as originals. I’ve always thought that Weird Al could capture the essence of a particular subculture or mentality in a song. For me, the best song where he does that is “It’s All About the Pentiums,” with a trash-talking computer geek perspective: “My flat screen monitor is 40-inches wide, I believe yours says ‘Etch-a-Sketch’ on the side,” and my favorite lines: “I should cap you like Old Yeller, you’re just about as useless as JPEGS to Helen Keller.” Followed closely behind is “Trapped in the Drive Thru” which perfectly encapsulates life living in a relationship. Then comes “Hardware Store,” “Albuquerque” and “Frank’s 2,000 inch TV.” I think all of these perfectly sum up certain mentalities. ---

The first time Good Enough For Now played in Shuffle mode on my iPod, I didn’t recognize it as Weird Al, or satire, and was thinking what an refreshingly honest country song it was. ---
