Glad to see someone mentioned _El Dorado_ and _Support Your Local Sherrif_ - two of my favorites from childhood. _Silverado_ is another fave as well as _The Sons of Katie Elder._

**My Darling Clementine**
**Unforgiven**
**Johnny Guitar**
**The Grey Fox**
and, for the great memories of watching it with my dad,
**Cat Ballou**
Also wanted to mention **El Topo** , not because it is good, but because it is the weirdest western of all time. Unless someone’s seen a weirder one…

Off the top of my head, not read others responses yet.

1. Once Upon A Time in the West
2. A Fistful of Dollars
3. Bad Day at Black Rock (set after WWII, but still has the feel of a Western)
4. The Outlaw Josie Wales
5. Unforgiven

I’m sure all of your submissions are fine films, but, **silenus** got it right in [post #37.](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=12248966&postcount=37)

Them other movies are probably all well worth a look, but once you’ve seen _Rustlers’ Rhapsody_, you’ve had a taste of everything that a Western needs.

110 posts and no one has mentioned the Trinity movies. They may not be great art but they are great fun. Also I would have to say My Name is Nobody with Terence Hill and Henry Fonda is also in the same line as the Trinity movies and is definetly in my top 5.

I’d forgot about _Open Range_, which I would put up as a candidate for the best Western so far in this millenium.

I’d like to recommend the movie _Good for Nothing_, a recent (2011) Western, about an outlaw who’s frustrated because he can’t rape his hostage due to erectile dysfunction, and rides all over the west looking for a cure. I can’t say it’s in my top ten Westerns list, but I found it very entertaining.

I’ll keep an eye out for GfN! I agree on OR: one of the best if not THE best gunfights ever filmed. [kevin kostner and robert duvall gunfight from open range](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAMRhP-zji8)
