Best white NFL receiver since Super Bowl I?

Mod Note:

I’ve received reports that people consider this to be a racist thread, or at least a racist OP. Although the OP is admittedly less than delicate, I’ll note that Cubsfan is himself, indeed, white. While that doesn’t necessarily remove the “racism” from the equation, it does go a way to alleviate suspicions of malicious racism.

Carry on.

Errr, no…it’s racial, not racist. Sometimes the distinction is difficult to see, but in this case you have to be willfully trying to be offended.

Edit to add: Upon rereading the OP, I see the target for ire: the word “whitey”. It’s enough of a non-issue that I didn’t even notice it the first time around, but I suppose if you enjoy being offended enough, that could twig your meter.

Racist thread? Really? What makes it racist? I figure that if you ask 1000 people to name the 20 best WR from the last 40 years off the top of their head 995 of them will not have a white name on their list. There are just too many memorable black WRs.

FTR I don’t think the only measure of greatness is yards gained which is why Largent didn’t immediately come to mind. Some guys have very short careers due to injury but could have been superstars otherwise. So they don’t show up on lists based solely on numbers.

And yes I’m white. Not sure why that matters here though.

Bob Chandler led the NFL in receptions 1975-1977

If TE’s count:

Dave Casper - Hall of Fame
Todd Christianson - Led the league in receptions twice, 5 pro bowls
Jeremy Shockey - 4 pro bowls

One day you’ll be old too, smart ass. The answer is Steve Largent.

Rice’s best year in yardage was a year in which 11 of San Francisco’s games were started by Steve Young at QB, and 5 were started by the immortal Elvis Grbac.

Rice could have gotten 1200 yards with my sister throwing to him.

I know I did.

OK, then you really need to consider the 100 career touchdowns. That’s a phenomenal number of scores for a receiver of his era.

I may not be as old as you are, but I’m old enough to have seen Largent in his prime (on TV, anyway). But not everyone on these boards is.

You might not be much younger than me, though, which is somehow satisfying. I just thought the OP was already factoring in the age thing with the “since Super Bowl I” qualifier, that’s all.

Fred. You needed acetone to wash your hand after meeting him.
