Although the Reagan admin did assist in the demise of Communism, he was the one that enabled the religious right to gain it influence, but I wonder if it was something that could have been forseen or is it hindsight revisionism.
Wilson had this issue of not being able to compromise, after WW1 he put his proposals to the victors and intseatd of trying to get some of what he held to be necassary, he treated his solutions as ‘take it all or take none of it’.
The result was that France especially was able to impose huge reparations on Germany which eventually led to a fatal undermining of the Weimar Republic.
Wilson was against these reparations but walked away when other parts of his scheme ran into difficulties with the others around the table, had he stayed, he might have had to compromise on those issues and held out against those reparations.(with a bit of encouragement he could have brought GB around or at least not interfere against him)
Single minded can be effective in some areas and it has its time and place, but can turn into destructive obstinacy in others and a great leader needs to understand the differance.
