I suspect she was an actress hired by an ad agency as opposed to the actual hotlines. My reason for suspecting that: Back in the 1990s, I used to record some programs that came on during the day and watch them later. Miss Cleo’s psychic hotline was a frequent commercial. After a certain period of time, I noticed that her hotline number varied from day to day. So. . . I thought it would be interesting to see how many different phone numbers there were. I know I filled up a sheet of paper with them, and they didn’t repeat, and at that point I gave up on it. Yeah, I need (and still need) a hobby. ---

There was a $500 million settlement. The article isn’t clear what role Cleo played.
