Ask her, “If Ann Coulter was running, would you vote for her because it was the right thing to do as a woman?”
If she did “abandon” blacks, then it certainly hasn’t hurt her career-wise. Blackifying herself (I just love the word blackify) would no doubt hurt her financially, so I’m not sure why she would feel the need to do that.
Whoa – let me rephrase.
I don’t want to vote for Hillary, but to be completely honest, I will vote for whoever the Dems put up. I’m hoping it’s Obama, though.
As a white male, now with John Edwards out of the race I am forced to vote for John McCain. I really, really like what Obama and Clinton have to say but how can I go against my own sex and race?
I don’t want to be a traitor.
Well, what about ME? There IS no 50% Italian, 25% Irish, 20% German, 4% Welsh, 1% Iroquois gay agnostic geek candidate!
Vote for yourself as a write-in.
50% Italian, 25% Irish, 20% German, 4% Welsh, 1% Iroquois gay agnostic geeks need representation too!
No electability.
Well if I had a net-worth of 1.3 billion I don’t think i’d be too concerned about losing any future monies due to less viewership. Which most likely isn’t going to happen anyway.
I guess it’s time to open the annual “Ask the Guilty White Man” thread.
Yep. I’ve even heard the “BUT HIS MIDDLE NAME IS HUSSEIN!!!1!” argument.
To see how seriously bad this is, you really should read the statement itself. http://www.nownys.com/pr_2008/pr_011108.html
Excerpts:
pfffft. at this point I’d vote for you!
Supervenusfreak might be able to help with that.
Psst! Your speech impediment is acting up again.
You know, time was, when you put the name Kennedy and “gang bang” in the same sentence, it meant something.
It still does. Near as I can tell, “Kennedy” isn’t mentioned at all in your above quote. In fact, his name isn’t mentioned in the entire screed. Kerry, OTOH…
I know, it ruins the joke. Sorry.
I guess I could remotely see the point of this, if Hillary had ever suggested that she would do anything for women that Obama wouldn’t (aside from simply being a female president).
You could argue that just having a female president would provide a role model and break the glass ceiling, etc. But wouldn’t that send the message that if you want power as a woman, you have to be pro-war, corporation-friendly, stick slavishly by your philandering husband to advance your political career, and sell out many of your liberal ideals? I don’t think that message is helpful nor true. I’d rather see Murphy Brown as the female candidate.
You think you’ve got it bad, but I’m a total fucking asshole, and with Rudy out, I don’t know what I’m going to do.
I’m in general agreement with you YWTF, but I have to point out some cognitive dissonance between what you’ve posted here and what you’ve posted elsewhere. In this thread you say:
But then over here you say:
So could you concede that maybe, just maybe, the white folks you’re talking about support Obama because they like what he has to say and think he’s the best person for the job?
There’s no cognitive dissonance going on, my dear spoke.
I said many whites, not all.
Many blacks support Obama just because he’s black. But not all. And many white women support Hillary just because she’s a (white) woman. But not all.
That aside, I see a big difference between making statements about the motivations of one individual when they vote and making similar statements about group tendencies. The latter is less problematic than the former. Who the hell knows why Oprah backs Obama? For all I know, it could be because she wants a cabinent position or some fairytale daydream like that.
I think I actually would vote for Obama based on the fact that he is black. I haven’t done proper research about all of the issues, and where each candidate stands on each issue, and I am not going to vote at all.
But I could see myself deciding that if both candidates are good candidates, and they both by and large support issues that are important to me (pro-choice), then I could see me making the decision that I would like to see what having a black president would do for changing certain perceptions in this society more than I would like to see what having the first female president would.
But lawd knows I speak only for my humble self, and no other black person that I know.
Also, love Oprah. I don’t watch the show, but love her still.
