Gus was popular with the police force in ABQ so that could be entirely possible.

I will point out that you only need a law license to act as a lawyer for someone else or give other people legal advice - you can still file a lawsuit for yourself or defend yourself in court even if you’ve been suspended or disbarred. Jimmy can still sue (or threaten to sue) the supervisor himself, and I suspect we’re going to see him in court suing someone before the season is up.

Yeah, if the supervisor thinks there is even a one percent chance Jimmy could make good on his threats, it is rational to back down.

> Agreed. When Walt was introduced to it, it was fairly new. Gale made it to try to recreate the blue meth.

I remember it a little differently. Gale made it to make his own brand of “scientific”, relatively pure, meth. But then Gus asked him to try to match Walt’s purity, and Gale immediately cried uncle. He told Gus that if he knew the guy who could make it that pure, Gus should just hire him instead (which he did). We later learned that Gus had sponsored Gale to go through school, which must have started during the BCS era.

Thanks for the explanation - I’m still not clear on what communicated that the body was the good Samaritan. In fact, could anyone point out the eps where that good Samaritan angle was played out? I must have been especially inattentive during that stretch… :smack:

I’m excited about the brewing strife between Howard and Chuck. I REALLY like the way they are portraying Howard as a greatly nuanced character.

So, would it be time yet for Kim to hire a paralegal/associate?

How much time has passed on Jimmy’s 1 year suspension?

Remains my favorite TV show.

> Gus had Lydia in the car with him when he was checking out the property. I doubt that she came all the way from Madrigal’s Houston office to Albuquerque, almost 900 miles, just to check out property for a laundromat for a minor subsidiary (Los Pollos Hermanos). Keep in mind that she’s deeply involved in manufacturing and distributing meth.

Has anyone seen any evidence that Los Pollos Hermanos is affiliated with Madrigal yet? I watched some of the “training videos” on the [AMC.com](http://AMC.com) site and didn’t see Madrigal mentioned (although one of the animations showed a container with the “golden butterfly” logo). At this point Gus is just distributing cocaine and as far aw we know is not manufacturing meth. I’m thinking that he still has Max’s (his former partner killed by Hector) notes/recipe for meth that they used tried to get into business with Don Eladio and has been funding the chemistry scholarship in order to come up with someone who can manufacture it. Gus might have approached Lydia as a methylamine source and she wants more involvement - convincing Madrigal to invest in Los Pollos so Gus has the capital to buy the laundry and set up superlab 1.0.

Per the BB/BCS Wiki, Gale was one of the recipients of the Max Arcienaga Chemistry Scholarship established by Gus (and named after his partner) at the University of New Mexico, and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1999. So that was before BCS.

Gale has done a variety of things in the meantime, including climb Mt. Everest (based on a photo on his wall).

It’s a logical failure. No civil servant responds to this stuff by caving in. Your first thought, right or wrong is that you will be defended by the employer. I really wondered whether they had done research on this. I can’t believe he would be on his own legally for doing his job. No city or state lawyers? Hard to believe.

Pretty sure Jimmy mentioned that the guy was a contractor to the city, not a civil servant.

Not necessarily. When I was in management with a federal agency, I made damn sure I had my individual liability insurance. The employer gets to decide whether or not to defend the employee, based on whether or not the alleged actions were within the scope of employment. So if an employee accuses me of beating them up, the Agency might well say I am on my own.

Moreover, in many disputes, the employee’s interests and the employer’s may not be identical. Even if the employer represents you, you may wish independent counsel - which can get expensive quickly.

In this case, the employee knew he had been a dick, and likely doesn’t care enough to make any uncertainty/risk worth his while. IMO MANY a civil servant would act similarly. Yeah, it was a little thin, but not entirely unbelievable.

Maybe. Anyone here going to say they would react that way too? I’m in the F U camp.

If a criminal can just lay down on the ground and then sue you, what kind of business model is that? (Hard to imagine the man was not employed by someone, and was just a sole proprietor.) You wouldn’t be able to do the job, or hire anyone to do it for you.

That’s the thing, anybody can sue anybody. The lawsuit doesn’t have to be successful, the threat of\* just having to defend\* the suit was what Jimmy was using as leverage.

I know that. Still doesn’t work as a business model. These kinds of vulnerabilities get sanded off when you set up your business. Two employees always on site etc. You got criminals who don’t want to be there, and you’re going to let them threaten you all the time? Also he must have had an employer. You don’t have sole proprietors supervising work release criminals. Christ what if there was a rape? The employer would be the subjects of the suit.

I don’t think they were work release criminals. Weren’t they fulfilling their community service as required by a judge? Also, most criminals aren’t lawyers who would know all that stuff. Plus that guy was a dick, knew he was a dick, and didn’t care enough to put any thought into his job. Those are the people who get scared when threatened by lawsuits.

Anybody else getting the feeling that this is near the end of the road for Chuck? The lecture from Dr. Cruz about taking things slowly and Chuck’s belief that he is an outlier seem to foreshadow a massive, season ending meltdown which lands Chuck in the giggling academy…

I’m pretty sure, just from a storytelling perspective, that Kim and Chuck will be around until the end (or very near the end) of the series. Just like Hank, Jesse and Skyler were around until the end, or very nearly the end, of BB. These are the people closest to Jimmy who are the drivers of his actions and conflicts. They’re part of his story. When they’re gone, the part of his story that we’re watching is over. They’ll be around until the final season.

Right. Frankly, I’m a little disturbed so many people are saying the guy is just “doing his job”. I don’t think he _has_ actually acted properly, so I don’t see what Jimmy is doing as just a scam.

It’s not that I think we’ll never hear from or about Kim next season, I just think they’re going to cut ties with each other pretty soon. She wants to be a dedicated attorney and he’s about to discover his Saul Goodman persona.

I think people sometimes forget that Saul Goodman was (will be), despite his colorful demeanor, a successful defense attorney in good standing with judges and so forth. He was not some sort of pariah. Kim already knew him as a public defender and a guy working out of a nail salon; she also already has seen his crazy commercials. There’s no reason to think she’ll run for the hills just because he becomes the Saul we knew (not like he’s going to tell her of his consiglieri mode).

I also thought he was looking for the woman’s husband, even though there would be no way that Nacho would know where the body was (I don’t think he is old enough to have been in the business eight years ago). And was that the billboard that Mike hid his car behind when he robbed the truck? Should have been another clue.

I was expecting him to dig up a skeleton - seeing a relatively fresh corpse should have been the final giveaway. Duh…

Plus there is no reason to suspect that the husband disappeared because of Hector and company - there are dozens of ways he could have died. If he died.

Judging by the number of neck braces and crutches you see in his BB waiting room I’m sure he does a lot of slip and fall cases as well. Faking/exaggerating injuries would be the type of thing that drives Kim away for good.
