My two cents:

Beautiful? Hell Yes!
Singer? Hell Yes!
Dancer? Hell Yes!

But it’s difficult for singers to perform live as well as they do in studio. It’s worse if they are dancing. I defy any of you who can sing to do aerobics while you singing and make it sound the same.

Alicia Keyes and Jennifer Hudson sounded great, but neither one of them was moving around on stage.

She’s gorgeous no question but the Bootyliciousness of it all is dull and boring.

+1

Also…her thighs are mesmerizing. How…how…how are they that size and don’t jiggle? Not even a little teeny bit?! Those things are a work of art, sculpted in muscle instead of marble.

Yeah, aren’t these threads weird? I don’t like most popular musicians, but I wouldn’t think to start a thread about each one.

This is not a shot at the OP, sorry if looks like one. I just find it a bit odd.

I’m not a huge fan of hers, but the songs “Crazy in Love” and “Sweet Dreams” are very good.

The performance as a musical performance was a disaster … I couldn’t hear half the music anyway. Something was definitely weird about the sound mix, but that might just have been unavoidable given a stadium performance (stadium performances suck – Springsteen and the Black-Eyed Peas similarly sucked during their Superbowl performances). But as a dance performance, it was riveting.

Probably because she was singing live-- something she insisted she’d do after the inauguration debacle. Both MJ and Whitney lip synced their various Super Bowl spectacles, so I suspect this sounded strange because she was actually singing and it wasn’t what we were used to.

I think you’re using definitions of “certain, limited crowd” and “small, select niche” that I’m not familiar with. Beyonce is one of the most popular R&B artists in history; she’s sold about 75 million albums as a solo artist and another 50+ million with Destiny’s Child.

Yeah, but not counting that she a fringe artist at best.

If you’re expecting Michael Jackson levels of talent, then I think you’re going to be disappointed, pretty much by every pop star except for one.

I would never judge a performer by her Superbowl Halftime show. Those are always rather bleh. Remember The Who? That was embarrassing!

Anyway, she’s got lots of talent as a singer (I’m not much into all that dance stuff), and she’s absolutely beautiful on top of that. What’s not to like?

Oh, none taken. I’m surprised that anyone had a similar opinion to mine. It’s probably all us oldheads. I really don’t know any of her songs, but I’ve seen enough online.
[ul]
[li]There were some observations that she stole (sorry, appropriated) images from modern dance classics, classics which I had never seen before. Yeah, the images looked similar.[/li][li]I’ve read stuff questioning whether she is the “real” author/composer of her songs, but there’s no way of settling this question.[/li][li]There’s the “she was never really pregnant” rumors. I guess she made a remarkable recovery, but I wasn’t paying a whole lot of attention to her baby bump. I don’t have an opinion on that, and again there’s no way to prove or disprove them. [/li][li]The attendant fuss over the baby.[/li][/ul]

Apparently she’s about to go on a huge, important, money-making tour, so I won’t escape her gravitational pull for about another year.

One thing I noticed during her performance last night is that her [lower stomach is a bit more pudgey than it was before](http://www.totalprosports.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/beyonce-super-bowl-halftime-show.jpg), a pretty solid telltale sign of pregnancy. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to have that kind of “pudgey stomach” but I’m just sayin’.

Also, she has light stretch marks on her lower belly in this [unretouched Terry Richardson photoshoot she just did for GQ](http://cdnl.complex.com/mp/620/400/80/0/bb/1/ffffff/2cccf08a4d077a55a6e092ce39d1491e/images_/assets/CHANNEL_IMAGES/MUSIC/2013/01/beyoncegqcover.jpg). Terry notoriously just uses lighting and not actual Photoshop on pictures. Again, she looks amazing, but her body isn’t exactly what it was.

The tights she was wearing were obviously designed by NASA.

Those that say they didn’t recognize a single song, I’m surprised. Crazy in Love, Halo, and Single Ladies are three of the biggest songs, R&B or otherwise, of the last decade.

That’s right. I am disappointed when I see pop stars going for pop icon status and failing miserably in the shadow of MJ’s magic.

Once in a while, some crazy kid actually is driven enough to push through, even though they don’t have that same level of insane natural talent that MJ had…they push through with sheer determination and mad ambition. Madonna springs to mind.

Great. Madonna doesn’t disappoint me.

And after last night, neither does Beyonce.

I like Madonna ok, but I don’t think she’s ever been much of a singer. A great dancer, certainly, and every creative, but not much of a voice.
