> Biden clearly won, but Palin did not disgrace herself.

> No doubt Biden is a better candidate, and he showed it. But those saying that Palin lost big are wrong. She \*almost \*held her own, and did better than I expected.

Only by the benefit of instilled low expectations did she not disgrace herself. When did Republicans start settling for “didn’t piss pants” as intellectual criteria? She was arrogant in not answering questions, wrong on her facts and gaffe prone. She is the worst national debater ever. That said, she did a lot better than she did in the Couric interview.

Results on [this poll](http://mediacurves.com/) are so consistent it makes me think people were seeing what they wanted to see.

I grew up in South Carolina and actually she can go fuck her self with this drilling shit.

We may attack. We did it once…

The New Republic’s [Noam Schreiber](http://blogs.tnr.com/tnr/blogs/the_stump/archive/2008/10/02/joe-biden-inspired-veep-pick.aspx) called it for Biden.

> [@](#):
>
> No question Palin helped herself tonight, but that’s only because she had so far to climb. If you’re grading on anything other than a massive curve, Biden wins hands down.
>
> The beauty of Biden is that he can go blow for blow with Palin on ordinary Joe-ness, then actually know what he’s talking about when he answers questions. Palin talks about the mean streets of Wasilla, Biden talks about the mean streets of Scranton. Palin talks about her son in Iraq, Biden talks about his son in Iraq. Palin talks about being the mother of a child with special needs, Biden talks about being a widower with two badly injured boys. Every time you thought she might claim an emotional advantage, Biden evened the emotional score.
>
> But, man, ask the woman to grapple with a substantive question and you worry she’s going to hurt herself.

ETA: TNR’s [Jonathan Cohn](http://blogs.tnr.com/tnr/blogs/the_plank/archive/2008/10/02/the-insta-polls-deja-vu-all-over-again.aspx) offers an analysis of why the “win” results for Obama and Biden are so similar.

For the record, Palin used “maverick” or “mavericks” 6 times in the debate, and then Bidin launched in with a string of 9 “mavericks” in a row.

I really hope that Biden effectively killed this term off, once and for all.

OK, We’ve let this thread run as color commentary or kibitzing or something all evening. However, everyone has had their shot and any number of remarks that were inappropriate for GD have been allowed to pass rather than interrupt everyone’s “real time” experience. It is time to close this off before it contaminates the rest of the Forum.

Threads on the topic of the debate are still welcome, (although I would strongly suggest that sexual commentary and innuendo and scatological jokes will be far less welcome).

If you need to link to this thread to make a point or to challenge another poster, fine, but this is not the re-writing of LOTR and it is now closed before it becomes a Forum unto itself.
