There’s always that first crisp autumn day when you forget to turn it back on and, man, that will wake you up. As we get into nights in the 40s and below, it would still be usable, but it would be strictly utilitarian with little enjoyment factor. Another bonus of the heat is the heated seat option. You don’t realize how nice it is until you’re used to it and sit on an unheated seat. ---

But no, not cheap. Seconded. If you have power anywhere close, it’s pretty easy. Extension cords are not recommended, but they do work. The 200 from Toto is about $400 (normally) and has most of the bells, whistles and heat. You don’t need to spend anywhere near $1500. The installation on the Toto is very simple, maybe 20 minutes. They’ve got it pretty dialed. I have been having bidet reverie lately, myself. I blame stress and having nowhere to be… ---

The electrical work is “install an outlet nearby”. Mine was probably as cheap as it could get, because there was literally an outlet on the other side of the wall, and that circuit could handle the small extra needs of the new outlet. It took me a lot longer to find an electrician willing to come out and do it than for him to install the outlet. ---

I mentioned in the TP thread I started that the unit I ended up buying (or something very like it) was priced at $100 or so when I first started looking late last year. I had to pay $160 when I bought it last month. Not exactly gouging, but definitely a response to the circumstances. ---

I don’t have one that’s convenient like that but I probably overestimated the cost anyway. ---

It’s not that high tech. Keep a plastic scoop in the bathroom. Use it to slosh underneath when done, using soap from the sink. Pull your panties up wet and get on with your life. My Filipina wife roared with laughter when she heard the virus-TP shortages and I explained how Americans use it. You mean you just dab up the poo with a little bit of dry paper? ew. ---

COVID has me bored so I decided to take the plunge. I had the outlet installed today and it was a major pain. Because of how my house is set up, the electrician had to cut a couple of major holes in the wall and I will need to get a drywaller to patch them. It was about $300 for the electrician and I don’t know what the drywall patch will cost. I will be ordering a Brondell SE400 off of Amazon tonight unless one of you convinces me that I would be making a mistake. It has hot water, a dryer, stainless steel self cleaning nozzle, heated seat and controls on the seat itself (no remote). It’s $279 on Amazon right now and it has great ratings. It will get here on Friday and I will be having Taco Bell for dinner. ---

Just last weekend we went to the plumbing outlet store and purchased the fittings for our ensuite renovation - including a toilet with a bidet seat. We are stripping the walls to re-line, so a new power outlet isn’t an issue (but it will need to run back to the panel for a GFCI breaker to be compliant). I can’t wait. ---
