It is like the opening theme for Family Guy where it always sounded like Stewie said “effin’ cry” instead of “laugh and cry.” They eventually redubbed it to be more clear.
I like the song, lyrics and all. What bothers me about the opening is the timeline scrolling across the bottom; it is neither linear nor correctly logarithmic. It’s like they don’t even try to get stuff like this right.
I’ve been tempted to slow it down someday and see if all the images are in historical order, and if they synchronize with the timeline, but I suspect I’d be disappointed.

The original still sounds like “effin cry” to me (I simply do not hear any “l” in there), and, once that was seared into my brain, I just never noticed that there’s a bit of an “l” in the new version, and I think I’ve watched every episode of it. Makes a heck of a lot more sense as “laugh and cry.”
Count me among those who know it should be “billion” but hear “million” no matter how hard I try.
But then, the one time I mentioned it to someone, she said she heard “billion,” so there’s that. Thank you, Wheelz and others, for allowing me to stop thinking I’m crazy.
Probably a whole lot easier for Seth MacFarlane to redub himself than for TBBT to get the Barenaked Ladies back to the studios to get them to say “billion” with emphasis on the ‘b’.
After the first couple of lines of the BBT song, I basically “give up and let it wash over me”; but until this thread, also I’d always heard the last words of line one, as “a hot damn state”. Though not hard of hearing as such, in general I don’t have a good ear…
The problem is when an American tries to do a British (or Australian) accent, the short ‘a’ is where they trip up the most. They never seem to get it right, inverting it from round to flat or flat to round almost every time. So “laugh” in a correct British accent would not get confused, but in a belaboured affected accent doesn’t roll off the tongue, hence being misheard.
