quite a few individuals who own airboats have been seen driving enroute to Louisiana from Houston, loaded with water bottles… one called into a radio station and said they were going to use their airboats to collect dead bodies… also mentioned that they’ll stop at gun shops along the way to help protect themselves, “from those who will try to kill us as we’re searching for bodies.” Wow!

We called Harrah’s yesterday to see if we could find out about a couple of folks we know who work at their NOLA casino, and were told that all NOLA Harrah’s employees are being paid their salary for 90 days. Which I realize isn’t a huge amount, but it’s a damn nice gesture.

I don’t work for a big corporation by any means, but we received an e-mail from our company president on Friday saying that he will match 100 percent of our donations to Katrina relief funds (Red Cross, Salvation Army, etc.). Fortunately this applies to donations made before his announcement as well as those made in the next two weeks.
